    Default Boat Launch Invitation

    Hi,

Been on the forum getting good rigging and wood working tips and techniques, so just wanted to extend an invitation to our boat launching next week. It's not a wooden boat, so I usually don't post much about it here.

We will be launching on May 30th, sometime in the afternoon at Kingston Marina, Ontario, Canada. Updates will be posted on our facebook page (you don't need an account) https://www.facebook.com/DundeeMimiJane/

Timing is a bit up in the air, as it depends on the transit time from our backyard (150km away), and getting set up under the crane.

    Cheers,
    Mark

A wonderful project. Not a wooden hull, but there sure is a lot of wood in her!
I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.

    Hello Mark,

A BIG day for both of you and for Mimi Jane!!!

I spent some time looking through many of the photos on your fb page. What a wonderful process they show.
It looks like the cats and dogs have been giving you proper guidance the entire way.

Are there plans for some serious cruising? I sure hope so.

    Best Regards,
    Alan

    Hi ,
Thanks for the great comments !

Alan - the only plan right now is to get her rigged and sailing on the great lakes. We've always talked about attending the Brest maritime festival in Brittany, the next one is 2024 so maybe that's a goal ?

We just freshened up the bottom paint today and it really cleans things up, getting pretty excited.

    Cheers ! Mark

There has been a change of plans. It's now June 4th. Our Ministry of Transportation was slow to issue an oversized permit for the trucking.

That must have been frustrating for you. But now you have a bit of extra time for those few little things you didn’t quite get to.

The festival in Brest is amazing but to sail from there to the smaller more personal festival in Douarnenez would be magical.
We sailed halfway to Douarnenez from Brest on a charter and when our boat turned around to go back to Brest every fiber of our beings screamed - No! We just wanted to continue on to the more intimate festival.

It's been a crazy few days, but she floats. Pretty much perfectly on the waterline as expected at this point (a bit stern down), we still have 12,000lbs of internal ballast + spars to go !

We finally have a pile of the rigging complete and are starting sailing. Here is a photo with almost the full suit up, just missing the topsail (not cut yet). It's been a busy summer.

Gorgeous! I love the cream of the sails, and such a smart profile. Very becoming. I can't tell from the photo if you use hoops, lacing, or do you brail to the mast?
