I like the black glass.
I like the black glass.
Hoo-Ah!!
Splendiferous!
There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.
WOW! That's going to be very dramatic with the dark glass!
I should have mentioned that there is no glass in the door in that picture, the contrast of the photo makes the inside seem darker than it really appears.
However, the glass is on hand and will be installed shortly, there's just some sanding and painting to be done first. The glass is half inch thick insulating units and the inside pane has a thin horizontal reeding pattern, which makes it translucent.

I knew that (just funning), but not the reeding detail. Nice.
Been lurking all along Jim, those doors are gorgeous with an awesome lockset.

I'm looking forward to putting in the glass, Thad, it's going to look great.
Thanks for checking in, I appreciate the comment.
Because this is something of a non-standard construction I'm going to forego the supplied strike plate and make one of my own out of a piece of eighth inch bronze. Here it is on the drill press, cutting the hole out old-school...

The future is almost past, fortunately it is here.
Thanks for the encouragement, yew lot. I will say this... that the days I tote a box of tools over somebody else's threshold are over.
Here's the strike plate temporarily fastened in place. The back screw holes will eventually be bolted into some kind of backer-upper behind the jamb. Also in evidence is the groove cut in the stop for the weatherstrip.
Here's another shot of the stops, in addition to the situation over the door.

The exterior color we've chosen is Kirby's Low Luster Steamship Black, because I liked the name. Shown here is the final coat, just past the tacky stage. The paint schedule consisted of two thinned out coats of Interlux High Build Primer followed by three sprayed coats of the Kirby's. All the coats were hand blocked with 220 grit after having a couple of days to a week of drying in between.
Because the interior face will be an off white oil, there has to be a line between the two paint colors. The black has been applied to this face and the hinge edge, because if you're opening the door from outside that's what you will see. The interior white gets applied to the lock stile edge, for the same reason, when opening the door from the inside that's the edge that will be visible.

Nice work, Jim. And I loved your sharing the insight about the hinge/lock edge colors.

Thanks, Greg, and here's wishing you a happy new year! happy
Thanks, Steven.
You're welcome, Hugh, and thanks.
Happy New Year, Rick and all!
Here's the interior view. The "wall" is 3/4" maple ply fastened flush to the door jamb and the window extension jamb with screws and thickened epoxy. Everything was sanded flush and painted. The plan is to extend this treatment all around the window walls for a clean look.
Happy New year, y'alls,
Jim
