I'd love to take a road trip through that part of the country. Never occurs to me either. I'm going to suggest it.

NY is kinda 3 or 4 states. Long Island has a whole lotta coast & therefore boating, then there's New York City, then what's known as "Upstate" which includes the Catskills & Adirondacks & a whole lotta boondocks, and then western NY with big lakes, vineyards, Lake Erie, and Buffalo. Can't forget the Thousand Islands area - along the St. Lawrence & therefore bordering Quebec & Ontario. That's spectacular country.

And - the Hudson River and Erie & Champlain canals, and, and... Anyone who thinks of NY as just NYC & its burbs is missing a lot. Lots of history too - particularly dating from the revolution.

Another day sailing at my favorite high elevation reservoir. This time of year with hot dry weather you need to be ready for rapid changing wind conditions. As I launched my Caledonia Yawl, I looked at the clouds and decided to start with one reef with another in the ready.

The clouds and wind came more quickly that I anticipated. I was on white knuckle down wind sleigh ride wondering if the CY was really meant to be planing when I was able to find a spot to spin and depower safely. I sheeted in the mizzen (thank you Iain!) and caught my breath.

These pictures were taken just before I raised my main sail and the micro burst, I was too busy to take pictures when the 30+ mph winds hit.

Smokin, That is a nice looking BMW. Did you make the conversion to the disc brake assembly on the front wheel? It looks good with the Earles front fork.

These were taken in Arkansas, but the clouds were toward the part of Mississippi that has been getting flooding.

No words needed, but how is the flag translucent?

Taken with a Leica M3 (1954) with a 90 Elmar collapsible lens. Film Kodak TMax 400 shot at 800, developed in TMax and the negative was scanned.

It's not but it's a lovely photo demonstrating the magic of infinite greys. Here's my best example - Death Valley - about a meter above the lowest spot in N. America

invigorating little adventure. those white knuckle moments while "recreating" in the great outdoors are like mileposts in life. as the kids say, "that's a core memory".

Not a bad photo Joe but your cropping is terrible. The door isn't straight, exacerbated by your narrow aspect, so you'll have to lose the curb edge or that won't be straight. You have also sliced off a portion of the face on the door.

The part that fascinates me, Lupo is the part where you assume your opinion is something I might be craving. What happened exactly to give you the impression that people you never met or care about having an opinion that would matter ?

I wish you nothing but peace and serendipity Joe.

Sorry but to me the shot is awkward and jarring and could be fixed with a little judicious framing, easily.

It doesn't fascinate you at all. But you compare yourself to Henri Cartier-Bresson and you're simply just not that good.

It's a world that I love and respect, and one that you could learn to be a little more humble about. That is all.

As far as caring about the opinions of people you have never met; why do you come here? You have not met most of them. And is it only meeting someone in person that gives you a sense of caring about their opinions? Think about that for a while.. all the relationships you have built up with people here that you have never met.

And by the way, learn some manners. The next time you want to tell me to GFY, think twice. It's a strong man that can take constructive advice in a constructive way, and a little man that gets all p*ssy.

FWIW You seem to wait in the wings to criticize anything, yet you had no words for the HCB like photo of the nun in the square. Ahh but thats your M/O and thats why you are someone I never met
    or care about.

i am nobody to tell anybody when or where to be peevish, but...

i motion that the first rule of the photo a day thread should be, no criticizing anybody's photographs.

even if, or maybe especially if, they are really proud of it.

this photograph i took today, for instance. i call it "green pears and brown dog". it's probably the best picture of a dog with pears you have ever seen.

yes, i have failed once again to finish it by a self-imposed deadline. keep this up it could be the last boat i ever build.

i might try making perry with this batch of pears.

pressed five gallons of apple cider yesterday, but have frozen most of it to enjoy un-fermented. might ferment the next pressing if i get around to the picking...

do you mean your peach tree is overloaded with peaches? that would be a terrible problem to have.
