Been a little windy this morning.

The glacier did a very careful job on the road when it left it behind!

Apparently hard drives can develop washboards, if the sampling head hits the disk.
I was referring to the nicely laid out curve... Of course your glaciers out there were younger than ours back east, so maybe they learned from their elders?

Washboarding occurs when vehicles traveling over the road get wheel hop from the vehicle accelerating. As the washboarding starts to develop, it causes more wheel hop & it gets progressively worse. Pickups (particularly empty ones) are the worst offenders & older ones with bad shocks are really bad - though any vehicle with a light load over the drive wheels can do it.

On my road (as an example) there's a 200' long rise that develops serious washboarding, but only on the uphill side - until it gets really bad & then vehicles drive on the wrong side to avoid it & create new bumps on the other side. If people would accelerate more gently, there'd be less - but asking pickups to accelerate more slowly is spittin' into the wind.

Then we get to potholes on dirt (gravel to those west of here) roads. The only way to get rid of them is to grade the surface of the road below the pothole bottom - but that means a lot more work for the grader, so they get most of the way down & the potholes are back in a short time. Of course the road looks great for 24 hours after the grader has done its work...

ETA: there are a few spots on my road where the washboarding gets bad on a corner. This is really fun, as - mostly if you're going too fast - the road can bounce you sideways a considerable distance. Go really fast & it'll put you right off the road. Last month there was a Tundra perfectly placed between 2 trees that were 10' off the road and 1' clearance fore & aft. The wrecker driver had to take down one of the trees to get it out.

Another pheasant plucker's son in my way this am.
followed him 20 metres up the driveway to the road before he mooched off.
Unusual as he's a Golden pheasant.

I'd like to see pictures of the kitchen island. I need inspiration A feller here let me cut some huge rounds from a big green apple box tree which blew down in a storm. They're the tree used here for butchers blocks as the end grain is sort of self healing and doesn't chip. I want to build a big island with almost the entire top being butcher block end grain several inches thick. I just need to live long enough for it to get to the top of the list of stuff that needs doing. JayInOz

The kitchen island is going to be a very modest affair I have a boat to build so it’s all about priorities
This stainless contraption will find a permanent home in the workspace once I have replaced it.

Wait--you have a workable temporary counter space in the kitchen already, and you're postponing a boat build to replace it?

And you claim that it's "all about priorities"?

Very true Tom however that stainless contraption could well provide a very sound foundation for the Makita thicknesser that Santa will be delivering to the ranch.
After 30 years of unbelievably faithful service the Ryobi AP10 will take a well earned rest on the shelf of backups and will be keeping these two trouble makers company.

Some serious bits of gear there! I brought home some weights from the tip a while back- as in weight lifting weights. Missus said what in the world are those going to be any good for? Right now one of the five kilo ones is doing a most excellent job of pressing the liquid out of her latest batch of soft cheese

Some local Bison on Antelope Island, Great Salt Lake. Although with dropping water levels, the island has become a peninsula.

This is Moose Lake BC, near the headwaters of the Fraser river. Looking southerly, Mount Robson is just behind the hill on the right.
