My hike today - Mount Tamalpais. Warm day with marine layer with monsoon clouds. A must when you come to the Bay Area.

Swimmers leave the starting line for the Long Beach Junior Lifeguards 2022 Iron Guard competition. This is a 4 mile beach run interspersed with 2 miles of swimming. It basically traverses the entire length of Long Beach. At each Lifeguard Tower there is a bouy the contestants have to swim around plus a pier swim. The goal is to complete the course in under 2 hours. My Son participated for the second year; his time was 2 hours 13 minutes.

Good on 'im! Glad to see he's willing to be a lifeguard! Our oldest daughter did that for several years 'til college. There is a massive shortage of trained lifeguards up here. Dunno about Cal.

After a couple nights sharing an anchorage with big ships we are looking for a quiet spot to spend a couple of nights of Sutil channel.

I don’t have a better photo. It’s the white gig with the dark blue sheer hiding back behind the blue Hvalsoe 16.

Nice boats. I recognize the Hvalsoe 16, this is Big Wave Dave, which was on the Salish 100. Probably the most photographed boat on the trip!

working in this heat, you need to stay hydrated, so as you don’t get clamps.

12" 130 kilo table saw I just gave it a birthday with new arbor milled replaced bearings and Poly V belt runs like the ducks nuts.
All started when I tried a Heath Robinson approach to facing off some error/wander in the blade which did reduce it somewhat but hey where is the fun in that so dismembered it and off to the engineer happy days.

Traditional fisherboat in the morning mist - the guy is at anchor and is letting the tide sweep the seafood (likely shrimps) into his net.

    Where to begin…
Purchased recently to add to a new wood workshop I am setting up on the ranch.
Saw is a real minter but with annoying minor blade wander although it ran fine the bearings sounded good overall it presented as with very little use.
Upon inspection the arbor had a over sized packing washer inserted only on one side which was pulling the blade out of shape when tightened with the blade and it’s outside partner.
First port of call was to lay the saw to 45 degrees and with a stone held in a jig face the arbor collar which did reduce the error somewhat.
Next out with tools on with music and into it.
    Crikey what a mess…
Drive shaft ribbed pulley was not happy the shoulder had left the party along with the key and the shaft showed what at first I took as a longitudinal crack but later proved to be caused by some prior fool grinding the bearing off the shaft and driving the remnants down the shaft hence the scar and the Poly V belt had a decent haircut too.
Thought about putting my head in the oven but it’s moments like this that remind one that a higher power added engineers to the species for a very distinct reason.
Shaft checked and repaired with blade collars faced true, added grub screw to pulley, new shaft key, bearings and new belt total cost $230.00 Kiwi roubles and I received $400 back from the original seller.
All up a days effort but being retired really is here nor there and the saw now just purr’s.
