in photo above, the nearest carboy has been racked into a clean jug for secondary fermentation. the others are in primary or just getting started.

also, all but the first have some mix of pear juice with the apple. different mixes, brix and ph levels, yeast types. keeping track to improve the product. last year i had crabapple in the mix but this year the tree did not produce. not one fruit.

just finished quaffing the last of last year's ciders...i failed to adjust acids and they mostly finished not acidic enough to optimize tastes. they were reasonably good, but i am shooting for better.

karen is a white galloway. galloway crossed with british white to produce the white park color scheme.

my understanding is that the white galloway was developed in new zealand, and my stock is almost certainly of a recently imported line. so, they took the long way from scotland.

    Default Photo a Day 365 X 12/2022….

Another great white egret, appearing suspended, while wading on a dock overflooded by the full moon tide. The rising moon caught in reflection.

    Here is the wide view

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

    Very nice.

Might I suggest cropping to have three pilings on the left, four on the right, to naturally frame the egret.

Also, 800 or 900 pixels width, at say 160 ppi resolution.

I hope that you don't mind, because it is a wall-worthy shot.

I'd photoshop out the sign too, and its reflection, because I am a cheater.

    Hey, that is great!
I was concerned about the the reflection of the barn and boats in the upper left. You dont think that detracts?

    Thanks for the tips.

That's a nice 'painterly' photo Kevin. I like the reflection of the barn and boats, especially in the upper right.

Another crop, if you don't mind:

The wife and I went to the bigger nearby town this morning to buy some things, then bought lunch and ate it by the river in the park. Had one of those things standing three feet in front of me staring at me through the entire meal. Missus is saying give him a little piece of your fish. Not a chance. He can catch his own. We had that, three water hens and two pigeons around our table, and above us a white cockatoo kept sticking its head in a hollow limb and screaming at the top of its voice. Eventually a lorikeet flew out of a smaller opening a couple of feet lower down. And on the opposite side of the same river red gum, a very busy bee hive in the hollow trunk. Quite a crowd to keep us entertained Got home twenty minutes ago to find the milking cow cleaning a brand new calf- not even on it's feet yet. Pure Jersey girl- I'm thinking we'll be obliged to name her Lizzy, being born on the day the queen passed an all. JayInOz

Good to be home better to have your best friend down the street. #Los Vesperados
We Vespa'd down to Laguna Beach Beer Company and shared a Pizza and a couple of beers.

Sometimes its good to have a best friend close, a Pizza and beer and the SoCal twilight

Ah ... my favorite undeveloped natural hot-spring ...

    220907-02.jpg

    220907-01.jpg

A pleasant hour hike to get there. The hot creek cascades down a mountain canyon with numerous natural pools of various temperatures, from really hot, to cold. Good medicine.

i like to say "steptoe". we drive by steptoe butte whenever on the way to the family cabin on the st. joe.

"haystack" is a pretty good word, too, now that you mention it.

“Butte” is a good word too.

I think twodot’s vivid postcard photo is of Haystack Butte near Augusta -- a pointy butte.

We have an Irish relative visiting. He’d been thumbing through a book on Charlie Russell’s art and perusing some Montana maps, then asked, “What’s a ‘butte’?”
