Trench Art Greg, minus the trench……. A good job.
This one would have suited my grandfather, Royal Engineers Cap.

I used the empty brass to make a candelabra on a solid brass base - had some time with a lathe while we were in the South China Sea between operations (yeah, I know, if no pictures it did not happen - but I haven't figured out how to do that)

If you have a pic on your computer, open a thread, create a new post, click where you want the picture to appear, then click the button on the toolbar 3rd from the right (rightmost creates, Quote tags, next one to the left is for a movie link - like YouTube, then the 3r is the picture one.

A new screen pops up. Make sure it's showing the "From Computer" tab (click on the tab label). Then click Browse. That will open a standard Windows Open file dialog. Find the picture file, then click the Open button. It'll come back to the gray screen - then click Upload File.

It will appear wherever you clicked on your post:

    Nice work!

[but wouldn't have been simpler/easier to just buy a piece of sheet brass?]

Thanks Nicholas and not really - I already have plenty of brass available in the form of 50 cal casings whereas I’d have to source and order sheet brass, so it was actually very much easier (for me) to just use the casings......and a little more interesting.

Actually, a Chanukah menorah - which is a religious candelabra, one could say. I fabricated it while I was on a destroyer off Viet Nam, some 50+ years ago -

(poor quality photo from a Samsung tablet camera - sorry -- spent .50 caliber brass cut off on ship's lathe and affixed on brass bar )
I am still learning this picture posting process - should have included something for 'scale'

At the side of my fireplace there is a shell case of about 2 1/2 inch diameter that contains the usual fire tending implements. My father came by it a long time ago as a swap for something else and tidied it up a bit by adding a wired edge to the top to make it a bit less of a hazard. It will be getting warmed up a touch when I light the fire on which I plan to roast the chestnuts I bought yesterday.
