Default Forums not rendering correctly in Firefox

Has anyone had issues with the forum not rendering or formatting correctly in Firefox? It seems to work just fine in other browsers.

Yes. It only renders correctly in Chrome on my iPad and iPhone, except for embedded videos, which don’t show at all. On all other browsers, desktop and mobile, it looks like this:

^ it looks like that in Samsung Internet on the Android tablet too.
I deleted the shortcut , logged out, created a new shortcut and its right for now, but won't allow me to quote/ post. Ordinary post is fine.

I'm on Firefox & it's fine. I have seen that happen when the forum gets bogged down - but refreshing the page usually fixes it after a try or 3.

I think the real issue is an old, overworked server along with an old version of vBulletin (the software that the forum runs on).

I have that problem on Opera occasionally and logging out and back in again has always fixed it.

Refreshing never did anything for me. But logging in and out has worked on all browsers, thanks John. Still can’t see embedded videos, though, on any browser, which suggests the problem probably is me.

I get the same thing. Initially, I could get the normal view half the time (on alternate pages), if I played with the controls, but now it is always in the "ugly" mode in Firefox, and no embedded videos. Other Vbulletin forums are as bad or worse. The SeaMonkey browser seems to do the job for the forum sites, but I don't much like it for anything else.

I often get that if I go straight to one of the sub-forums. If I go to the root forum "http://forum.woodenboat.com/" it normally renders ok and I can then go into the sub-forums.

The issue is in ssl connection, I have reported this to admins a while ago without any response. The forum is wrongly rendered if you use https://forum.woodenboat.com, just try http://forum.woodenboat.com. They have somehow badly configured the ssl cert and web server configuration.

Actually this is the only one really populated forum about wooden boats, but its engine and setup is just .... It would need serious refresh. Than features like RSS and all the new messages through email, etc.

THe fact that it not just the WBF that appears like this makes me wonder if there is something else going on. I tried the htttp:// version, and was redirected to the https:// one.

Go to the top of the page and click on forum, it should render correctly...for a while.

This may be a plugin or browser settings. I have no issue visitting http version on mobile Firefox or desktop Firefox (ESR 78). But this is probably the only site I access wihout encryption (in time of certbot and lets'encrypt it is a shame).

I, too, have this rendering problem, and use Firefox. I find it so dysfunctional that the forum is barely on my radar these days, which is a bummer.

I too was using Firefox to access the forum. I added Chrome to my Windows PC and it works fine. I imported bookmarks etc. so it was an easy switch.

I changed from Chrome to Firefox the other day and straightaway had this same issue - and only on this site of all the ones I visit. I clicked the little icon to the immediate left of the forum url in the address bar, and confirmed that even though the site was not secure, I still wanted to visit it. Then it was fixed. I do wish the admins could find their way into the 21 century.

I generally use Safari. I get that screen at least three times a week, usually when I try to reload a page. I usually click on Forum, near the top of the list, and that takes me to the front page where I select the forum I wish to view.

From there, none of the Reply links permits me to Reply until I've managed to Go Advanced and from that I can then Reply to subsequent posts. If I go away and don't return for a few hours I have to go through the Go Advanced routine again in order to post any Reply.

I have never seen the forum as https. the URL field always says "Not Secure".

Garret is correct. The version of vBulletin which they are using is old, and I've heard it's a trial version anyway. It's done remarkably well, considering.

Success - without switching browsers. As johnno did, above, I clicked on on the padlock symbol (next to the shield on the L side of the address bar), and switched to http, rather than https. Works just dandy now.
Thanks for this thread and contributors - I had heretofore thought it was just my computer. Thanks to Scot, too, who reached out to try to help.
