A sad day.
A sad day.
Bye, Charlie.
RIP.
Goddammittt, we’re getting so old!
ITS CHAOS, BE KIND
A sad day. It became harder to find the beat with fewer great dummers.
Without friends none of this is possible.
One of the few jazz drummers in R&R.
Sad news.
RIP Charlie, we'll miis you.
He did have a rather good jazz band..

Bummer… another sad day.
RIP Charlie, we loved you, what you did with sticks….
sticks.
Damn. However, I have to say that making it to 80 with what he must've put through his body (& put his body through) is impressive.
I remember my mom talking about all her favorite musicians dying & how sad it made her. Now it's our turn.

The last part of this after the 11 minute mark talks about Charlie.

I never would have guessed Charlie would go before Keith.
60 years as drummer for The Stones is a real accomplishment.
Keep calm, persistence beats resistance.
A great drummer. Four drums and the truth.
RIP
I see Keith's daughters get ALL of their looks from their mother, ex-super model Patti Hansen.
( Many moons ago I was walking in Greenwich Village and suddenly I realize Patti Hansen is standing on the corner diagonal me, and I stood there with my mouth half open just gaping at her exquisite 6-foot tall self. She literally was the most physically beautiful woman I had ever seen. )

Every Republican is an obstacle to progress.
Just talking about drums.

If there ever was a pop musician who deserved to be knighted.
It has taken me a long time to learn to appreciate the drumming styles of both Watts and Ringo. I grew up listening to the styles of big band drummers like Gene Krupa, Louis Belson, Buddy Rich, et al. When I first saw Ringo using a double overhand grip I thought it seemed kludgy. Then a few years ago I became friends with a guy who was the drummer for Doug Kershaw among others. He taught me to listen to the way both Starr and Watts subtly drove the bands hard with timing that was a little different than the big bands and helped to make rock so infectious. I now listen to The Stones and appreciate Watts’ grace and drive a lot more. It will be difficult to replace him.
One of my favourite anecdotes I think, funnily enough, first published in Rolling Stone recounts how in the height of the decadence and substance use and misuse era, Jagger was pissed off that Watts hadn't turned up at the studio on time , Jagger was half pissed, Watts was in bed still and Jagger yells down the phone ' Where's my drummer ?!!'
Watts replies
'I'm not your drummer you're my f+++ing singer!
He looks so relaxed and low-key when he's playing.

Quite a few years ago the well connected photographer Patrick Lichfield recounted that his butler told him that Charlie Watts was the nicest man that had ever stayed at the family pile.
A small local burger chain in this area, Red Mill, was known for ONLY playing Stones music in their joints. Today I noticed their reader board just said simply, “Charlie Watts”. No r.i.p. or explanation, just the name.
Everyone I talk to asks me if I've heard the news. Everyone.
Charlie is not impressed with this song...
The Rolling Stones' tribute to Charlie Watts
He was such a ground, humble man.
