Default Space Station out of Control for Forty Minutes

Thought this might raise a few eyebrows......

The International Space Station (ISS) was thrown briefly out of control when a newly arrived Russian research module accidentally fired its thrusters.
The firing occurred a few hours after docking on Thursday, pushing the orbiting complex from its normal configuration for 47 minutes.

Raising the ISS orbit for a few minutes is not the same as being "out of control".

"Out of control" would have been something like the Russian module introducing a rotation that the ISS thrusters couldn't compensate.

Having said that, I see that there may be structural damage from the torque induced. The ISS is long and flimsy...

What a piece of junk the Russians have attached to the ISS! Is this their way of gradually running NASA out of town?

I'd be willing to bet that was a long 40 minutes for the people onboard that station.

Maybe not. They were probably pretty busy dealing with it, I imagine. Makes the time go by all too quickly.

The rate of spin reached a maximum of about half a degree a second and the station’s orientation twisted by 45 degrees.

If it had continued to spin at half a degree a second, the space station would have flipped around entirely in about 12 minutes.
Not as exciting as I would imagine out of control to be.
    Life is complex.
