    Default Astronaut

NASA rules that to properly claim the title of Astronaut, one must actually perform work attributable to the mission of the spacecraft. Merely being a passenger doesnít cut it.
Thus, Bransonís pilots are Astronauts, he is not. Neither is Bezos. However, honorary Astronauts wings have been awarded to a few non crew who have contributed significantly to the interest of space exploration. Wally Funk may qualify.

Astronaut "wings"? Kind of like the first fish to go on dry land were awarded a pair of silver fins?

Nasa seem to be using common sense here.

If you travel on a seagoing ship as a passenger, you do not thereby become a mariner.

Its an expensive fair ground ride. Those who take a jet plane to go on holidays, are they now pilots?

Nothing wrong with being a passenger into space, selling it as becoming an "astronaught" is just typical marketing, which does not have to have anything to do with reality.

I once used a deodrant spray, but unlike in the advert, i was never chased down the street by woman.........

But I'm sure you've seen the women who are compelled to dress like an admiral out of a Gilbert & Sullivan opera. I always get a kick out of that.

what about the pedantic requirements to be called a spaceman? rocketman?
Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

    Which requirements to become "rocketman"?
I only had to hear Captain Kirk doing his version and I was hooked.

Do they perhaps warrant the title of Space Cadet?
