This guy from NZ finds Frank Dyes Wayfarer in a barn in Ottawa and carts it down to Florida in the back of a U-Haul.
Great story by a guy who was, when he started the voyage, pretty much a non sailor.

Not a book, but don't ignore Dylan Winters' "Keep Turning Left" blog of his sail around Britain in small boats.

    He used to post here.

Ken Duxbury wrote a series of books describing his adventures around Greece in his wooden Drascombe, then eventually sailed her home to the UK.

If you're looking for more factual information similar to Barnes' book there's also:-

    Open Boat Cruising (Ian Nicholson)

    Practical Dinghy Cruiser (Paul Constantine)

    Open Boat cruising (John Glasspool)

Beyond a decent boat, anchor package, and camping gear it's as well to try to understand rig control (racing dinghy books) and inshore pilotage and navigation books so you can work with and without gps.

2 questions regarding that book cover.

Is that a Giles Jolly Boat at the top?

Is that rig detail what you call a sliding gunter?

Lodestar! If you don't know this publisher, virtually all of their offerings are fantastic--not only subject matter, but production quality and the actual physical books they publish. Do check them out. Lodestar's own Dick Wynne is a longtime WBF member.
