Default Anyone familiar with Coelan deck finish?

Sam Devlin suggested I look into it as a way to help mitigate my leaking fir plank foredeck on Snoose. He used it on his troller Josephine and said it solved a great deal of the problem. Itís a German made high elastic clear wood coating, seems there are several options for color and finish. I was surprised that a search of the WBF didnít turn up any hits at all.

Well the search function isn’t that good, now, is it? Us old timers remember when ACB used it on Mirelle’s decks.

If you type “woodenboat forum coelan” into google you’ll find many threads.

Thanks. Yeah I keep forgetting the WBF search function is worthless.

    ETA:
The google search worked MUCH better and I found the threads including ACB’s. They are very helpful and I’m encouraged that this may be a reasonable solution, definitely worth more exploring.

I've looked closely at Josephene. She sure is shiny. Is traction an issue?

    You bet!

I found that when the deck was dry there was no issue, but the moment the deck got wet it became a skating rink!

After our first trial sail I painted the decks with regular non slip deck paint over the Coelan. That was fine for the next 17 years until I sold her. Not a single drop of water got below.

I like the “not a drop of water below” bit. Not sure I like the “slippery when wet” bit.
