recorded during COVID, to an online (hence silently clapping) audience.

    That was good Tom.
More flute from Jerome Richardson with Tiny Grimes on guitar.
I loved this whole album, even the cover is good with the ice box and the wringer washer on the front porch on the outskirts of town.
Happy New Year to everyone here.

Kevin, it was 1958 - maybe before your time.
    Positive feedback is nice. Thanks

Thanks Irv. Reminds me of listening to “Jump for Joe” from across the lake in Buffalo from 1950 or so. Joe was Joe Rico and his “Jump for Joe” was recorded by Stan Kenton.

On the Capitol label above the alto solo is credited to Art Pepper.
So when Stan Kenton played Maple Leaf Gardens here in 1953 I had a seat at band level and got the alto soloists autograph thinking it would be Art Pepper. However it was actually Lee Konitz. Just as good and he died only a couple of years ago of Covid.
so they all didn’t die young.

You're very welcome. If you listen to the KNOB long enough, you'll hear that cut, along with a bunch more Kenton and his peers. My partner, Ken Borgers is a former PD/Jock in the LA jazz scene. The original Jazz Knob is long gone. KKGO is now Go Country, and Ken's former home at KKJZ is now Kenny G-Spot and New Wave/Fusion. The whole country is suffering from a lack of good jazz radio. We wanted a station that we could tune into that only played "Good Music", so we made our own.

I learned Objective C and HTML to create the KNOB. That was decades ago, and I haven't used either since. I'm now re-learning C++ for another project. I hope to get to re-building JazzKnob.org, but the priority is low. Too many projects, and not enough time, or surviving brain cells remaining.

    World needs more funk.

    Excellent fusion mish-mash of sorts.

ETA: One can't go wrong following this act along with Ian Carr if you're into immersive jazz/acid jazz.

Riding in the truck today with Son2, when this came on the local jazz station. I told him to listen, as it's a fave and particularly good. He, a hip-hop fan, said he was surprised how good --

A great classic. And the cover reminds me of my own father who wore hats like that and smoked cigars.

Good story about Pee Wee Russell:

A jazz student at a university recorded one of his solos, transcribed and notated it, and showed it to Pee Wee. He looked at it and said there was no way it was his solo, because he could never play anything that hard, with that many notes.
