Jay Greer suggested using these compressed wood firelogs in a small boat stove. (Thanks Jay)They are made of sawdust, shavings, hog fuel and the like.Been using them (cut in half) in my cubic mini stove. They burn long, put out a lot of heat and don't leave much ash

I will try to get this thread out of the pig sty....

Charcoal doesn't work well because the stove is front loading and it's hard to shovel lump charcoal into the firebox without it getting all over.

Don't get them wet, they will revert back to sawdust. Don't ask me how I know

I was thinking about using charcoal too. My stove is really small, like really small so I was thinking of making up a whole bunch of small paper bags with a few briquets each. Get my hand dirty once. How well do they burn in small stoves?

I think bags of briquets would work. I suspect they will burn well once you have a good fire kindled.

I intend to keep them dry. I store them cut in half in a 5 gallon bucket with a snap on lid

Manly men. . . Err...hipsters at least, here in Seattle, burn Java-Logs --fire logs made from compressed, spent coffee grounds.

Our local grocery store, The Ballard Market, used to carry them, but since they remodeled wand went upscale, they've been discontinued. But you can get pre-peeled/-diced onions now, along with not not so very good sushi instead.
