The rest of the stringers are fitted. Tomorrow starts the fairing and then the bottom skin(the thickness of 2 credit cards) goes on.

Maybe if it were three cards thick you could have gotten away with a dozen fewer stringers?

It is cool to me how stiff and strong the relatively flimsy stringers and skins become in such structures. The moment you are about to experience when the skin is fully attached! Such a cool moment!

This thing looks wicked cool. Keep grinding.

All day fairing. It’s kind of like balancing a ceiling fan—if you know, you know

Starting the planking, if you can call it that. 1.5mm is interesting stuff, very fragile. My eyes has two rules: no kitchen stuff for epoxy and no epoxy on the dogs.

Wow 1.5mm How do you join sheets , scarf or butt?

I would have thought the face veneers would run perpendicular to stringers for stiffness?

the chines will be taped with 2oz glass. The inside will be glass in between the stringers.

After a long debate with myself about whether to overlook some buckling that occurred with the 1.5mm plywood and varnish, or fill and paint, fill and paint won out. C/B slot is cut in. Iíll flip it tomorrow and then itís a race against the thermometer to see how much I can get down before the temperature forces me out of the garage.

Probably trying to do too much with one piece of ply. Basically I tried to bend around the boats rocker, as well as somewhat of a radii from port to starboard…and the gull shape at the bow.

Flipped it. Weights about 25 lbs as is. Lots of filleting, glassing and adding gussets in my future.

What an elegant structure. Will the floor (sole?) of the cockpit be covered with plywood that is thicker than that fragile 1.5mm plywood used on the bottom? Also, what are the short pieces on top of the last frame before the transom?

The plan’s call for 1.5 reinforced with Kevlar. Those are filler blocks of cedar, I’ve yet to plane then to the cockpit radius.

the plans call for glassing all the corners between the bottom and the edge of each stringer. I’m choosing to fillet. It’s about a 3 day project. Trying to keep it neat and clean. The inside of the bow is to the left, station 400 is in the middle, station 805/mast step is partially in view to the right. Near the bottom you can see the scores I put in the first ply to get the wood to bend around the gull shape of the bow.

This former Moth builder and sailor likes to see this kind of build project. It shows how broad the range of wooden boats can be.What material will the decks be?

Forward will be 1.5mm ply. The plans call for the cockpit deck to be 1.5 mm ply reenforced with Kevlar set in epoxy. We’ll see about that. Some are using carbon fiber. Others are using 3mm and fiberglass.

50 gussets. These will tie in the frames to the stringers. Kevlar bandages will complete the bonding.
