Following the collapse of Cruise and Maritime Voyages, three much loved ships which have been regular visitors to us in Tobermory are making their exits.
MS Marco Polo was built in 1965; was sold for £2 million last year, then sold on for scrap for £4m. Now being broken on a beach in India.
MS Magellen, 1985, has met a similar fate, and is on the same beach.
Saddest of all, MS Astoria was built in 1948 as MS Stockholm, and survived the collision with the Andreia Doria in 1956. She was offered for auction yesterday, with a reserve of £10 m: no takers.
No guesses as to her likely fate.
