if you don’t mind reading subtitles, well until they stop being in English, I think this is a really good documentation on how one can build a sizable boat out of simple materials with, lots of work, and a fair bit of epoxy. This guy pulled it off, nice interior too. If you like this style of boat or not, it is an impressive bit of work.

All I see is time wasted.
Pre made frames that need beveling...so much time and material wasted.
building a one off upside down.
crap used for the hull, fancy wood for interior..that how one builds a house, not a boat.

compared to others this guys wasted much less time, “crap” used for the hull, there is something to be said for using what is local and available when you are going to be encapsulating it in glass and resin, everyone can’t live in the PNW where there is an abundance of top quality wood. I disagree that he wasted a lot of wood with those frames. Upside down right side up, I like his flipping method.

Aren't all strippers built upside down? No pun intended.

The method of framing and setting-up is pretty much identical to the methods used by a number of one-off custom builders, notably Covey Island Boatworks. It would be nicer if he had used better-quality planking, but you make do with what is available to you. If the moisture content of the wood is low when the interior is sealed, he should have no problems in the future. In general, I see no problems with what - and how - he has built his boat.

As I say here frequently, for every problem there are dozens of solutions, two or three of which are likely correct.
Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

John Steele told me a wish in his life would be to build a boat with me.

John is a good guy to work with. I have been involved in five builds with him.
