Pump jacks are not something you set up for a quick project. A pair of ladders and ladder jacks with plank are suitable for a window replacement. Unless you are residing the whole face, no one is going to go through the time and effort to set up pump jacks again. No benefit in planning for their future use.
A square of plywood with a hole in it to accept the pole, and then screwed to the roof, is a common and acceptable method for securing the tops of the poles. It doesn't take much.
