Permanent anchor points for scaffold

The crew is using a pump jack system to work on the tall walls of my place. It’s a bit unusual because the roof is already on. Normally (I think) they would anchor off the plywood roof deck.

They have “V” shaped supports they attach to walls, way up at the top, with screws.

In the future, after the metal siding goes on, this will be harder since it will be difficult to find a solid/well-backed anchor point (and it will put holes in the metal looking for one).

I’d like to go ahead and install a fixture now that will make this easier if they have to go back up (paint, broken window, etc)

I don’t see an obvious choice for a permanent anchor point. At least not the US. The ones I am finding seem to be European.

Does anyone know what is used in the US? Or something that might be suitable?

Edit-I guess I could use the fall arrest anchors. It would be loads better than the 4 screws they use to attach the braces currently. But still wondering if there is a better answer. Something made for the task.

Are there rafters accessible from below the eaves and gable end barge boards?

Not much accessible at this point. Just the opportunity to thru bolt something to the walls. I’ve got 2 fall arrest points on the rafters on each side. But it would be a stretch to use those for this purpose.

Pump jacks are not something you set up for a quick project. A pair of ladders and ladder jacks with plank are suitable for a window replacement. Unless you are residing the whole face, no one is going to go through the time and effort to set up pump jacks again. No benefit in planning for their future use.


A square of plywood with a hole in it to accept the pole, and then screwed to the roof, is a common and acceptable method for securing the tops of the poles. It doesn't take much.

Thanks all. I was actually thinking about that. Just leave them in and cover. Though maybe not worth worrying about. And there are some angle issues with trying to push the upright into place if it were affixed.

It would be a rare event to need to put those up again (I hope).
