    Default The Haunted U-Boat

Another creepy nautical story from the 1950s "One Step Beyond" TV series. The story is supposedly based on fact, but IMO only loosely. I won't give away the plot, except to say it involves a Nazi official escaping from Germany by submarine at the end of WW II.

The wreckage of a German sub was found off the coast of Argentina in 2015. http://thescuttlefish.com/2015/12/a-...0-years-later/
Several thousand Nazis are known to have escaped to South America, so it is not inconceivable that some traveled by submarine.

The sub in the TV show is identified as U-147. However, the real U-147 was sunk by British warships in 1941. Enjoy the show!

Two U boats turned up in Argentina around July/August 1945. One left Germany loaded to the gunwales with food supplies but was empty when it surrendered to the Argentinians.

Thanks, WX. Maybe the crew of that sub ate well on the voyage across the Atlantic?

Here's more about those two subs, U-530 and U-977. https://worldwarwings.com/the-uncomf...ter-wwiis-end/

The sub whose wreckage was discovered in 2015 was a "Biber" class mini-sub. We don't know what happened to anyone aboard. https://www.warhistoryonline.com/war...argentina.html

In addition, the wreckage of U-3523, an advanced Type XXI sub, was found off the Danish coast in 2018. There was speculation at the time U-3523 was sunk by the British that it may have been attempting to smuggle Nazi leaders to South America. Of course, now we will never know. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...-a8312581.html
