I really like all the designs Flo-mo has made out of one sheet. This is an attempt at a crossover of his one sheet Flywood and the hull of his 2 sheet sailing canoe. It still needs a lot of work as I am no Flo-mo.

Only a few more small changes to be made and I think I'll be ready to transfer it to the plywood.
Made this paper model while I was at work. After making it I noticed a few changes can be made to the layout of the panels. Also one of the panels I made a little short. As you can seen in the last photo.

Very cool.
Very interesting -- keep on the great work!
I once worked on a similar design. As the material for this one sheet design was supposed to be expanded PVC foam (Airex R 63.50, 270 x 125 cm) for an extra light canoe, I never showed it here on the forum. Also I started by the assumption that the material shown on this shop's website (https://www.farbenwolf.at/index.php?...=38&Itemid=137) was readily available, which turned out to be wrong. So I gave up to proceed this project.
But it still had a purpose as the design is the basis for two other designs, the Flywood Wherry and the Flywood sailing canoe.
For your inspiration here are some images of the abandoned project:

Very nice. It has already given me a few ideas.
One is build this one. But I want the back end to be wider so I need more hight on the back walls. I really like the addition to the nose. I think I should start using some kind of boat software. What one are you using?

The new layout of putting the same ends on the same. Side allows for less joining. I now realise that all I needed to do was rotate one line and cut the back on the Flywood one sheet design. But It was a fun experience. I should be able to start making this next weekend if the matirals I ordered ever get delivered.
I am glad my input was helpful.
Of course using CAD software is helping a lot, but the most important part for developing my designs to the point where I am pleased with the result, is the usage of scale models.
Regardless the software I use is Rhino for general purposes and ProSurf 3 for fairing and hydrostatic calculations.

Don’t be modest! The most important part is you think in a unique way. The tools help realize the vision, but you had to think of these wild ideas, first!
I will sometimes go to your site and just look at the sheet patterns; how the panels get cut out and assembled. I mean, I think your boats are lovely to look at, and I think I’d like to build and own them all; but the WAY they come about is amazing.
Same same as this here canoe. The goring, bending, flexing, and stretching required of just the brain!
I do enjoy these type deals. Thanks, all, for posting stuff like this.
So about 15 or so different designs and modules have been made since my last post and each one I noticed was becoming closer and closer the original design. This is the end result almost exactly the same as the original design the only changes are in blue.
I think the first rule of design is you always come back to the original.![]()

was able to use more of the sheet. nats final canoe 27012021.jpg
there is so many different ways to assemble these providing almost any shape possible. I guess this means you can choose the end you like best. this layout looks like it should work well.

below is just some of the other options. they all need to have the sharp edges rounded to work properly. The one at the bottom is the one I would like to try. not to sure if the plywood will bend like this? nats final canoe 28012021.jpg
Maybe you have already seen Octavia, an amazing rowboat design by Chris Waite. If not, I recommend to take a look at his work:

He did an incredible job to persuade the plywood to take the desired shape.

The transom shape is almost identical to the one you envisioned. If you use 3 mm plywood you might be able to achieve the bend, but I guess there would still be a high risk of failure.

I was working on a scale modle with a more practical shape but after seeing these photos I think I will have to give it a go. I really like the shape. If it fails I just make the other shape. I don't seem to be able to get any good 3mm plywood here in perth.
The first 2 photos are the modle with the curve.
And the others are the modle I just finished. It has an easier shape to achieve.
I'm really enjoying making these scale modles. This one is going to get covered in fiberglass. I used a thin layer of the cardboard as a pretend fiberglass tape on the joints.
There’s an Aussie cat who built an outrigger canoe and several SUPs with 3mm ply from Bunnings, glassed with 4oz glass.
I got really excited the other day when I found 3mm at bunnings but it was 2440mm x 600mm I'll have to call around.
So this was more effort then I thought it would be. Still lots of fun
So just when I think I'm settled on a design this pops into my head
It's based on one of Flo-Mo's one sheet designs. I think I will have to build a scale modle of this and see where it takes me. Still needs lots of work to get the look right.
Made the firs scal model of this design today and a few changes are needed. But I think I will have to give this one a go.
How do those panels look when cut out and assembled?
They looked like this before I added anything from another sheet. I got the dimensions wrong on some as you see in these pictures.
I tried to make this little boat look like the bottom one
I should probably try for something with easier curves to achieve like the middle 2
Every one I make I'm like this is the one. then I want to try something different. This is a nicer shape and easier to achieve with the plywood. Not very efficient use of the sheet
If nothing els my model building is improving
Looks like fun.
This is what the corner of my desk at work looks like.
You love to see it.
Still messing around with different options. I think I'm liking the ones on each end.
So I was starting to draw the design on the plywood when I decided I wanted it to be easy to draw and easyer to cut out. This was what I came up with. I should be able to use my circular saw on almost all of it only a few of the cuts are curved.
You can cut curves with a circle saw, too. Just set the blade shallow.
Started to build some of these. Starting with this one first.
Looks great. I am eager to see the hull flipped and your solution for the transom.
Im still not sure about the transom as it's halfway between a kayak and canoe. I was thinking I would just see how this is and if it's no good I make something different on the next one lol. I have already started drawing the next one on the plywood.
I would like to make one with the stransom like octavia. But just started simple for my first design and used the 2 pieces from under the nose and let the boat chose the shape of the transom. If that makes any sense.
There is only very flat slow water near me so I was thinking I can get away with little protection on sides. If you have any suggestions for the transom I would love to hear/see them. I was trying to prioritise stability
