^ It seems that Trump, naturally, appealed Judge Howell's order and the three-judge D.C. Court of Appeals is the one who ordered this late-night, early morning response by both parties in a process that would normally take months.
Is this the Appeal Court's way of telling Trump that they are sick and tired of his delay tactics, and they aren't going to let him abuse the courts anymore?
Whatever the case, there were a bunch of lawyers burning the midnight oil.
    Today should be interesting.

By this point, even if he goes to jail Trump has already proven to be above the law if only by all "kid glove" treatment he's received. Trump won't receive punishment to match his crimes.

I do not understand how Drumph has any lawyers at all, considering how he stiffs everybody he employs. A law degree is no immunity against gullibility, I guess.

Some conservative provocateur warned the NYPD about arresting Drumph. It made me laugh. NYPD ain't Uvalde cops.

Seems to me that crooks need to lawyer up too, in every proceeding. Trump's various defense attorneys are getting significant advertising exposure for their prospective client base. What better way to signal that you'll seek out even the most mendacious and disingenuous arguments in the hope of defending an obviously challenged criminal client, than to do it on cable news? Even at the risk of getting your @ss handed to you by the TV hosts.

Here is some real brown-shirt activity.

Ali Alexander threatens NYPD: Cops ‘will be dealt with’

Ali Alexander, the MAGA provocateur and Republican operative, has been pushing increasingly inflammatory rhetoric on social media during the nationwide arrest watch for former President Donald Trump.

On Tuesday morning, Alexander took aim at New York City police officers who have been mobilized in anticipation of a possible indictment from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

“Any cop who betrays the people for politicians is a traitor and will be dealt with at a later date accordingly,” Alexander tweeted at 7:26 a.m. “Do not add your name to the fake news who are enemies of the people.” The tweet closed with the hashtag #NYPD.

Responding to a request for comment from Raw Story, Alexander said in an email: "While I've discouraged everyone I know from attending anything in New York City unless there's a prayer rally featuring former President Donald J. Trump, I want to double down on my statements reminding law enforcement that they have a duty to protect the people, even from politicians and agitation."

Alexander organized rallies promoting false claims that the 2020 election was stolen that culminated with the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol..

Alexander has also recently promoted inflammatory rhetoric that frames the prosecution of the former president as an existential threat to his supporters.

Commenting on news about low attendance at a protest in support of Trump that was held in Manhattan last night, Alexander tweeted: “This makes me sad but I warned y’all. Here is your post-Stop the Steal era and now Democrats having seen it, will arrest more of you and murder more of you. Projecting weakness invited genocide.”

Alexander deployed similarly inflammatory rhetoric that flirted with violence in the runup to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

During a Periscope livestream four days prior to the insurrection, Alexander told followers: “In 2021, we will decide whether the Second Amendment militia talk and 1776 is rhetoric or whether it is a threat against tyrants. In 2021, we will literally decide whether we have a transhumanist future and the Great Reset, or whether we put them to bed. And I vote we put them to bed. And I vote that we put them to bed by any means necessary, but as peacefully as possible.”

In a livestream on the social media app Callin in November, Alexander bragged, “I started a riot for the sitting president.”

Alexander walked up the Capitol steps on Jan. 6, but then left the scene and surveyed the chaos from a nearby parking garage. He has insisted that his activities were protected by the First Amendment and has not faced any criminal charges for his role in the events of Jan. 6.

In recent days, Alexander has been reliving his glory days as the leader of the “Stop the Steal” coalition following Trump’s 2020 election defeat by posting photos of himself leading rallies during that period.

In a pinned tweet from this past Saturday, Ali wrote that if he were advising Trump, he would tell him to hold a prayer rally outside of New York City and discuss his “arrangement with the DA and I would make them arrest me on stage, in front of billions.”

D.C. Court of Appeals has ruled against Trump. Told him to go pound sand.
He can appeal to the Supreme Court but the lawyer/pundits say the SC will refuse to hear the case
and they won't take long to say so.

The latest on the Mara-Logo lawyer who is being forced to testify.
He is scheduled to testify on Friday, no doubt he'll plead the fifth to every question.
That would be expected. However, he also has to produce all his notes and records about the case.
If he hasn't shredded them all yet, they could mean trouble for Trump.

He's also like to be be facing disciplinary action by the bar. Which may not take his pleading the 5th, or missing notes/records as an indication of innocence.

    Opinion

Calmes: As a Trump indictment looms, Republicans are throwing the rule of law under the bus

A normal political party would have thrown a loser like Donald Trump under the bus by now. The Republicans are choosing to chuck the rule of law instead.

Should the former president become the first to be indicted for a crime, many of us would prefer to see charges stemming from the ongoing investigations of his unprecedented efforts to reverse an election result and resist the peaceful transfer of power. We wouldn’t choose to make history from an old, tawdry and legally problematic allegation about pre-election hush money paid to a porn star to keep her mum about their tryst.

But it seems likely a grand jury in New York City may decide otherwise; the hush money charges could come this week. If Trump is indicted for the pay-off scheme, we should respect the decision. Learn the facts. Let the prosecution play out.

That should not need to be said, especially to our political leaders.

Yet such a response does not describe what Republicans are doing. Instead, in truly stunning Orwellian style, they’re purporting to stand for the rule of law as they doggedly undermine it — all to pander to the vengeful Trump and the MAGA voters in his thrall.

When the hell do we get some solid schadenfreude out of the fate of this miserable turd? This is the least of the charges that make any sense but maybe NY believes it has the goods locked down tight. It makes no sense but I will take it as a satisfying start assuming they know better than I do. But I have to agree with the LA times. Leading with Stormy Daniels seems pink. Perhaps the one thing the Christian right can't stomach is a messiah who diddles pawn stars. Somehow they are able to excuse all though I hold little hope for so many. But maybe diddling pawn stars is finally enough to turn a few heads where emboldening and encouraging insurrection isn't?

It doesn't matter one bit which indictment is first or how seemingly unimportant it is. It just needs to be done. Precedent set. No one is above the law. Start rolling in the right direction. Let the maga morons squeal as loud as they like- and arrest them and charge them if they step out of line. And do something to make wilful lying a crime- the dangerous stuff that scum like #ucker carlson still spew every single night. Their lies have consequences- there should also be consequences for the liars. JayInOz

Then again, it could all be a setup for failure. That would be awkward. I don't particularly like the leaks and consider their occurrence beneath the importance of the case. It's really painful to watch. You'd hope for better.

My guess is that the TFG being indicted for the lesser crime is what the rest of the prosecutors and the special counsel are waiting for. Its the first domino and Bragg has the least to lose. Once the first one goes over the rest will come cascading down.

No sh!t. Expecially since those damn dominoes have been teetering, leaning, quivering, pulsing, while we waited for the dense fog of 'unprecedented' to boil off. John Smith has been right all along. It has been only a matter of time. But I suggest that it has also been a matter of matter, as in physics (not psychics). It's gonna fall, all of it, and the reverberations are going to cause serious quaking in the boots of the Rs incumbent and their wannabees for a generation. See if it ain't so.

Too many see Trump as stupid. He's actually done all this without signing much. He's left a lot of lawyers holding a lot of bags. Hopefully it will catch up to him, but I'd not count on it. Hopefully it catches up to him.

I must say I'm really surprised you folks believe something of significance will happen to Trump. The last 4 or 5 years have shown me that nothing will. As a small example - remember emoluments? He made a ton of $ & it was winked at.

I'd love to see the SOB in jail as much as any of you, but I don't expect to see it.

Trump seems to be intending to have a pre-trial gag order imposed on him by a judge, when indictments do ultimately come. Restricting internet access and posting privileges, just as happens to a bunch of others who incite violence.

The baseball bat is a nice touch. Klassy in fact.

So - how does someone get elected with 10%? Though now that I read it, I 'spose if 20% of residents voted & he won by 50% + 1 vote you could say that only 10% of residents voted for him. Damn what a sleaze.
