If that law were in place then any nutsburger DA in an opposition-heavy district could convince 12 jurors beyond a reasonable doubt that a sitting president is guilty of whatever trumped-up charge comes to mind, and throw the entire federal government into turmoil.

    Right.

Plus, an ex-pres makes a good kidnapping target. Uncle Sam would prefer not to have to go there.

Ironic if he's indicted on the 45th page of this thread.

I'm concerned that the last witness the grand jury hears from is Trump's dirtbag attorney, twisting things anyway he wants. I hope they have the brains to recognize BS disguised as the truth.

There are other grand juries and investigations of real crimes. Reminds me of the junior right wing lawyers pursuit of impeaching Bill Clinton. Starr was installed, a strategy was pre arranged and the real stuff got replaced with the bimbo stuff, displacing the serious charges. Bimbo accusations that Clinton could survive. Starting to look the same here. The biggest perception factor a Biden challenger could exploit is "virility". Trump's pretend "affair" with the attractive adult star is admirable to a large segment of potential 2024 voters.

Biden's talk (as opposed to the actions of his cabinet members) and Biden's shutting down the Afghan adventure is a pretty good record to run on. I hope someone like the late Andrea True, maybe Debbie Harry is a solid Democrat and can forward with a Biden saving better Biden scandal. lol

I believe there are documents that contradict whatever he said.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Trump is a master at abusing the justice system to his advantage. Unlimited money means unlimited lawyers to file unlimited amounts of paperwork simply to delay everything.
He will be indicted but his lawyers will file delaying paperwork until the day that man dies.
I'm very pessimistic about Trump ever facing trial/justice.
I might just have to settle for a photo of him in handcuffs before he is released.

We can only hope that one day the toaster will burn his ugly ——.

If it was up to me I would have indicted him the moment he asked Russia for “dirt” on Hillary Clinton, to help him in his election.

”Scum Bag” is too nice a term for that guy.

It's rare, but they do. But it has never happened to a former president.

Trump is winning the game. It's very clear that if something were to happen today, he thwarted it. If he lied, he still made them look like a bunch of weak children because nothing happened. This is a result of a multi-tiered legal system that has been allowed to perpetuate and get worse. If Trump is not held to account this year, he's won the war, he will never be brought to justice and the His followers will be validated. The legal system in the states and on the federal level needs to sh17, there is no getting off the pot, not if the intent is to maintain the integrity of our legal system and the idea that no one is above the law.
In the US this perverted idea of “blood and soil” over “constitutional principles” is the most radical and anti-democratic and anti-Conservative idea I have heard in my lifetime.

    Yes, but here we are.

The statement that "if they had anything on him, they'd have indited him already" is ringing all over the country. Ignorant statement or not, every hour that goes by validates it. It's been 2 years since J6 and many more for many other criminal acts Trump has clearly committed. I'm beginning to believe they've got nothing and are playing a political game . . . they had better damn well have an ironclad case if/when they finally indict him.

The NYT has an interesting take on his state of mind

Those who have spent time with Donald Trump in recent days say he has often appeared significantly disconnected from the severity of his potential legal woes.

A lot of Republicans are spouting off that this will be bad for the country if he's indicted, and similar arguments.

I've not heard anyone say, "He didn't do it.".

Word out tonight about the Mar a Lago documents case. Judge Howell last week ordered that one of Trump's lawyers had to answer further questions to a grand jury, because the attorney client privilege he claimed was overruled by a crime fraud exception. She ordered also that he turn over documents- including invoices, handwritten notes, and transcripts of telephone calls between himself and Trump. While Trump's challenged the order, he's today been required to submit a brief by midnight tonight, with the DoJ responding by 6 tomorrow morning.!!

ABC news reports that the documents show that Trump wilfully deceived Corcoran, the lawyer, about whether Trump had any further documents he was trying to hide and retain.

Speculation had been that Corcoran was perhaps an accomplice in the obstruction, to be flipped. It now seems like he was not that, but may be compelled to testify as a witness confirming Trump's intentional withholding of the documents.

It's,a big deal, piercing that privilege due to crime-fraud. It's an enormous deal that there is documentation for Trump's intended deception of his own lawyer.
