    There is absolutely no guarantee that the Australian government, given it's toadying to the US for the past 70 years, would not have handed him over either. The rape charge was just a hook and even if he'd served a sentence for that the US would still have been after him.

    I have just heard the US lawyer on radio for Assanges extradition musing that maybe the new admin. will drop the case completely.

    As i understand it, the core of the decision is because the US prisons he is likely to go to are considered inhumane.As a result there's a more than high chance he'll kill himself, and the prisons have no way (or no inclination) to prevent it.
    Pretty damning assessment of the US prison system ......... again....
