85 restaurants in California (74 are company-owned and 11 are franchised locations).

your empathy as a business person who prospered under pandemic shutdown rules is duly noted.

but i'm sure all those people already have new jobs lined up.

It's horrible pizza that has only 85 company owned and 11 franchised YET they have $230 Million in debt - something tells me it was more than Covid that killed them.

EDITED TO ADD: California Pizza Kitchen, majority owned by private-equity firm Golden Gate Capital was struggling before the coronavirus pandemic.

Not to mention all the PPP & SBA $$$ they received.

FWIW We overwhelmingly support local restaurants, during this pandemic when we could eat outside we did, when we had only take out we did, we wrote reviews and tipped big.

I even made a Review Vlog for our favorite Cafe and posted it to all local social media and drummed up a significant new customer base that they thanked me for yesterday when Renee & I went there.

B-Roll Breakfast is now trending locally

Sounds like some of those millions have found a new home, likely in a tax haven somewhere OS.

    MORE:

    From their website

    https://www.goldengatecap.com/

Golden Gate Capital is a privately held enterprise with over $15 billion in committed capital. Unlike conventional private equity firms, we operate as a private holding company and recapitalize, restructure, and ultimately build meaningful businesses in partnership with management over an indefinite time horizon.

LOL So nothing about it being owned by a private equity company that raids and liquifies companies at the same time boats about over $15 billion in committed capital while running up $230 Million in California Pizza Kitchen debt.

Yet the typical Joe (SoCal) haters gotta hate.

    grin away. *shrug*

call people losing their employment and having their lives disrupted a "silver lining", gfy.

the restaurant ownership may or may not be garbage, the pizza may have been lousy, but dancing a jig on job losses is boorish. par for the course, though.

Sounds just like the outfit that ultimately owns the place I work for. I optimistically give it five years, before we get poofed like a Sky Blue thread, due to their financial shenanigans aka management fees.

I never ate there, but there seemed to be reasonable crowds at the one in the Stanford Mall. Some liked the food.

When visiting in California we would walk to that mall, window shop, scatter to buy meals, congregate to eat, and walk home.

Wikipedia says 14,000 employees. I wonder how many of those will not get their dogs groomed anytime soon.

I’ve eaten at both the California pizza kitchen and the Carnegie deli. I was equally impressed with both. However, only one I had to take out a second mortgage for a mediocre corn beef sandwich and a limp pickle...

How many could afford Joe's services in the first place?

I do feel very bad for those 14,000 people. This is an awful time to be out of work. I wonder what shenanigans led up to their failure from massive debt? I did try their pizza once, I thought it was garbage too.

We don't groom many fast food employees at $100 a pop, besides we are fully booked for the next 3 months, but good looking out.

Carnegie Deli closed down on December 31, 2016. after workers reported a gas leak. A court ordered the restaurant to pay its employees more than $2 million in back wages.

So yea bad management on BOTH places.

Again So we give FREE GROOMING to all those in need and have offered FREE grooming to all that need it during Covid. W've given reduced pricing to many, and provide pro bono work to all local shelters and service dogs. I also offered out pet taxi FREE to anyone that needs to pick up a dog or drop a dog off to the Vet or pick up meds or just transport a dog FREE of charge.

So GFY you have no idea how I operate.

They drive the grooming van slowly through the poorer parts of town, calling out, "Bring out your dog!"

How come it is all sympathy and defending for the employees of a pizza chain that is owned by a hedge fund, but none of it for the shipyard workers and crew of hedge-fund owned superyachts? Don't they deserve sympathy and support, too? Could it be that it is easier to relate to a pizza than an Oceanco?

SIL in Torrance patronizes a really inferior pizza joint. He grew up on outstanding pizza, so am puzzled as to where his taste went.

    From Wikipedia
The chain has over 250 locations in 32 U.S. states and 10 other countries, including 15 California Pizza Kitchen nontraditional, franchise concepts designed for airports, universities, and stadiums.

CPK's brand is licensed to a line of hand-tossed style, crispy thin crust, gluten-free crust, and small frozen pizzas for sale in supermarkets. The brand was originally licensed to Kraft in 1999. The license was assigned to Nestlé after it purchased Kraft's pizza lines in 2010.
