    Default Planer Knives Source?

    Hi All,

I have a '90s-vintage 12" Craftsman Thickness Planer, model 113.275040C and I'm having trouble sourcing out new blades/knives for it.

Anybody have a source? Or better yet, a compatibility-chart of other blades that will fit (as in oil filter charts)?

More specifically, does anyone know if the blade from a 21758 will fit?

    Thanks,

    Dave

I've been looking for some knives for an oddball jointer that I own and have found that online sites such as Bangood, Aliexpress etc. often have them with the actual measurements shown. Ebay too occasionally.

I use a company that does my Shaper cutter sharpening. W Moore Profiles in Florida,NY. They have bar stock of different alloys of steel. I talked with them and they helped me choose the proper alloy and cut the knives to length and ground them for me. I’ve never seen any that weren’t 1/8” thick, but there probably are some. You can measure the depth of the cutter head slot to figure width if you don’t know it.

Thanks, always good advice indeed. I did get it on. That's a great system with the B, the notch in the cast hub. It allows you to get a rim and tire on or off without having to remove the whole thing. Very clever notch in the casting.

Dave, stay away from the outfits that cater to the hobby market, find the shop that services the tooling for your local cabinet and joinery shops, ( saw filing shop or as we call it, "sawdoctors" ) . Just give them the dimensions of the blades and they'll make them to suit. They're generally cheaper, better quality, and when you need them sharpened thats the place to go.
My career job was working with these sorts of guys, planer moulders, shapers and such.

Infinity Tools down in Florida sells HSS and carbide planer knives. They don't list that model specifically, but measure the knives: they probably have ones to fit.

+1 on W Moore profiles. Knowledgeable fast, nice to deal with. I’ve been using them for years for molder knives, shaper knives, custom router bits and so on.

I ordered the cutter head in July and I just got it. The one for the jointer came about two months ago.
