CLC Expedition Wherry

Wanted a sliding seat boat that would handle some rougher water. Kit came a few weeks ago, but I was tied up in airplane school. Started today.

How it arrives.

Glued up the puzzle jointed planks today. Feels like cheating it’s so quick.

Been 13 months since I started assembling my CLC Waterlust expedition canoe kit. I just might start a thread here of mine own about that rather than hijack Reynard38's.

We can let his first picture stand for what mine would have shown; I received my kit in February of 2017, it took that long for me to get my 'boat shop' ready. As with his kit, mine came in one BIG box - wood bits innit - and a smaller one with the other stuff.

Tomorrow finish the stitching and then flip and jig it up square in preparation for gluing the seams

It does use the Piantedosi. Enjoying the shop a lot.

Bonded the skeg on. Obviously the hull exterior is now glassed.

Also I’m not a huge fan of varnished Okume. Rather bland looking. I recently picked up 2 large boards of what appears to me Honduran mahogany or something close to it. I cut a 1/4” thick slice of it for the transom as a veneer.

Starting to think of finishes. Varnish does not fair well here. Hull will be painted, possibly in a pale, antique yellow. I’ve got something else in mind for the decks....

Funny that.

For my Waterlust I went with Kirby's Classic Yellow for the hull with the top strake / panel bright red.

Deck's pale, antique yellow w/coaming picked out in red too.

Anxious to get it launched but not while the snow's still falling, worst of this winter not yet begun.

It’s already warm enough for boating most days here. Took the powerboat for coffee and a haircut this morning. Was a bit brisk, and breezy on the way back (30 knot gusts).

Next project? Hmmmmm......

Final (hopefully) coat of epoxy on the hull. Added a strip of Zynole for abrasion protection.

you move faster than I do. Of course mine has been stalled for the last six months while I decide on a few details. I build mine to plans and made a few changes along the way.

As she sits now and will continue to sit until the basement warms up some.

I do everything on the floor of my garage, or on sawhorses outside in the front yard.

Thirds actually. The largest part is from cockpit bulkhead to bulkhead, it's about 8 feet long and just manages to stand upright in my basement. Getting ready to put the deck on mine once spring comes. My rebuilding my GP put the wherry on the backburner.
