    Default What boat is this?

I believe this boat may be from a ship in the 1600s. A friend is doing some research and was wanting some information about it. Any clues? Other than the fact that it is a 'pretty' boat

    Thanks

It is a replica ships sloep. Designed to be carried in the waist of its mother ship, to be used as a lighter, liberty boat and anchor handling craft if fitted with a windlass and fairlead on the stem.
Nicolaes Witsen published engravings of several.

This is the draft created for the building of one example.

This is the model that I built from another of Witsens engravings

The original work is "Aeloude and hedendaegsche Scheepsbouw en Bestier" of 1671, https://archive.org/stream/gri_33125.../n251/mode/2up
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.
