Looking great

I made a special journal for Daughter. I made it without a spine board, so the back is smoother and more in keeping with a journal, from what I’ve seen and had. The little front badge is for her to label it with whatever and all that.
Fun stuff, making these little books. Who knew? With some nicer cloth boards and paper, I might could make a pretty passable book, I imagine.
Next it a little sketchbook with some nice paper and maybe 50 pages or so of some nice, heavy-ish paper.
And here I thought it was gonna be a little red book... Still cool though.
"If it ain't broke, you're not trying." - Red Green
Oh, the end pages were picked to sort of go along with the red stitching. It’s a theme.
They’re truthfully not very nice books, but they’re nicer than paper stapled together. Mostly.

Fill one of these little books up with horrific nonsense like this, eh?

Almost done…

Well. Someone sent me this picture yesterday. It’s me, about to podium my last mountain bike race, ever. Rigid single-speed with cable discs.
The best part about this shot is that you can clearly see the broken buckles on my shoe; I brushed a rock in a technical section and the buckles broke. My shoe was loose for most of the 40+ miles.
I still had a blast. I generally try to have fun. Life is short and hard.
Anyway. It’s so wonky and blurry I think because it was blown up so much? As I said, this is the first time I’ve seen this picture, but I like it.
ETA: I didn’t mention that my racing license had lapsed, and since my last license was at a certain tier, I had to race in that category. I think I was the last guy to expect me to do as well ad I did, and that may be why I decided to officially retire that day.![]()

Incidentally, a few years before this race I was told I’d never walk again, never run, and certainly never ride a bike. I gave my doctor the first Ironman medal, but I kept this one. And the other Ironman medal.![]()

Hmmm… I have some panel-shaped, processed, wood-based materials stitched and glued together and a need for a whole bunch of clamps. WTH am I making?!
Greeting cards out of really squirmy things that have to be taught their place?

Close enough for a town this size.
Nice...
I ran out of drill, and I have NOT gotten the hang of making book cloth, yet. Turns out old pants legs work a treat! The kids call it a jook, because it’s covered in “jeans”; jeans book.
I call it slightly warped covers and a just almost enough spine material; I made it with a soft spine, and I wish I’d left a few mm more material between the covers…
Next time.![]()

Done enough…
Very nice Rob; the gravel looks particularly good- but I would have omitted those telly aerials!
Haha. Thank you. I already cropped the original image to remove a tricky road grate and some parts of some walls in the extreme foreground that would have been more fun than I wanted to have.
That said, I think the aerials kind of make the shot; they place it in time. I mean, this scene could be anytime in the last 500 years, man.
It’s the one thing about Europe and the islands off the coast of Europe () I really would like to experience, that. Buildings built CENTURIES ago. I often go and sit at acorn grinding holes in rocks on the rivers here, and I like to look out and pretend it’s back when.
Loads of places I could do that across the pond, but in a damned chair in front of a building.
One of the most expensive shots in Raiders of the Lost Ark was a pan shot of the horizon; they had to pay all the people to take down their “telly aerials”. That’s the story, anyway. I learned to cut film on the table they used to cut parts of Raiders.
Wheeeeeeeeeee!
It is very manicured for even 100 years ago.
Just what it is, but back then not everyone had a garden service, trash collection and leaf blowers
I do miss ramshackle..

A little quick and dirty sketch. I’ve done a few like this, now. I set a timer and it’s a race! 10 minutes of panic and fury.![]()

Me start new drawing challenge from artist friends. Me like draw boats, especially when there’s no water!
Seems like those wee books of yours got some fun use...

I am beginning to fill pages in it. I’m going to continue to do some 10 Minute Doodles from the pictures I took at the Museum, because I took pictures specifically to draw from.
I also plan to do some real drawings of a few, because I think they’d be super hard to draw.
All of this is in hopes of increasing efficiency. The quicker and more boldly I work, the more I can get done for a given time. In theory.
Why I want or need to be more efficient is as good a question as any.
good stuff.

And, that’s how that happens.

Done for the day. I’ll finish the details and blending tomorrow and call it done.
