I am flat out amazed with the quality of Stancraft boats out of Idaho. If you don’t know what they are do yourself a favor and take a look.

what kind of finish do you suppose they use on the exterior hull?

From their website:

"Now that all of the woodwork is done we stain and varnish the boats. We apply 16 coats of varnish and buff it to a mirror finish."

Pretty boats but they are for rich folks, not working guys like me.

Very nice people. My wife and I toured their shop a few years ago. They let us climb up into the cockpits of boats being built and look at their design office. Quality work by people who love what they do.
