There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.
One could theorize that based upon this process it could supersede 3D printing at a much lower cost. There is no information in the article about adhesives and sealants needed to bind to the densified wood and fasteners to join parts. I’m sure the researchers are working on this issue as well. That would interesting to know. Could give a whole new meaning to cold molded hulls.
I found this a bit odd.
"A five-layer, plywoodlike sandwich of densified wood stopped simulated bullets fired into the material—a result Hu and his colleagues suggest could lead to low-cost armor."
It can't take much to stop a "simulated bullet"
simulated bullet: air cannon to fire a steel rod
Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.
A "simulated bullet"? Hey, REAL bullets are easy enough to get, and cheap.
Straight to weaponization. do not pass go ,do not collect $200no boats for you.......it's for stoppin bullits...radar stealth
I want a bulletproof stealth boat!
Seriously, boats can benefit from research that has other intentions. But many here consider plywood "newfangled". This could take a while.
Would a bulletproof stealth boat ... still get Epiphanes brightwork? Asking for a friend.
