    Re: This Is Wales

When I was 21 I spent 6 mo traveling in Europe, mostly in Spain, but finished my trip with only 2 1/2 weeks in England. After a crazy few days in London I went somewhere in the Cotswolds and thought why the hell didn’t I start my trip there. I was tired and lonely at that point but it was a good place to rest. I remember walking a narrow stone road and thinking “These people really care for their country”. It was a good feeling to take home.

Roath Park Lake? I had to demonstrate that I could row a boat there before I was accepted onto the University's geology department trip to northern (Arctic) Norway, where access to research areas was by dinghy, there were few roads there then. We had a 14ft wooden boat, a beautiful craft, with a 4hp outboard on Laksefjord. Later, I moved over to Snofjord, with a 16ft plastic boat (sorry guys) with a 6hp. Took it round North Cape in 1975. Been crazy ever since.

True that. People I met, and worked with when I lived in Wales, tended to know the local history more than most other places I have lived.

                      Love the Snowdon photo

Where is the wee winding road?

We had some very close encounters on the narrow back roads of South Wales. Thankfully, the bus and coach drivers knew their job and kept their cool. I was always happy that I didn't have to drive.
