Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

"is that spinnaker becoming an issue?"

    Always worth broaching the question.

I was on a similarly sized boat when that happened except ours heeled far more then that.
I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.

I was on a 57' Mull doing similar and we practically put our spreaders in the water.

I really don't like crewing on boats that need a diaper or safty straps to keep a person in their bunk when off watch!

I remember that feeling and the surprise when you drop the chute and the boat goes faster. The real fun comes in a planing dinghy when you fall off just a bit, get up on a plane, and sail a longer course in less time. I was a lot younger then...

I've been in that position racing quite a few times. Usually thirty something footers.
We got knocked down to 45 degrees at anchor on the last trip, that's a bit different. Lots of stuff went flying, organic rubbish to ipad to mugs. It was a very stressful 45 seconds that felt like 1/4 hour.

So many round-island races with reaching legs... the crews who mostly do windward-leewards put up the chute just out of habit, and they go fast until handling becomes an issue and we pass them with no spin. and back and forth like that and we both arrive at the next mark at about the same time, and they CF the takedown and we round first.

And the next week on the windward-leeward they're talking about how the spinnaker has a weird cup in the lower panel now, gotta order a new one Cap!
