having fun with 5'disks on an orbital sander, fisished with the stoke of HD contractor stock 80#. In resuppling p/u 3M's NEW/BETTER/LONGER LASTING -50% more expensive. Don't like it worth a darn. Anyone have the same problem? Yes, i did get several grades of mediumness.

3M paper has always been a very big disapointment for me. Some people love it, though. And many pro outfits use it exclusively.

For the small user I like Norton sheet products and I'll take whatever discs I can get that aren't 3M. Porter Cable discs seem to do alright, although they're a bit expensive. I'll try Klingspor discs one of these days. I like their paper on my detail sander.

The glue that attaches the sand to the paper on both sheets and discs can cause reactions with polyurethanes and some epoxies. For this reason 3M charges a little more for thier premium paper as they use a bonding method on thier abrasive papers that will not react with spray paints.

I stated using Klingspor a while back and am very happy with their products.
Use the gum rubber cleaner often.

Try the Norton 275 series, AKA "Champagne magnum". terrific stuff. 3M is for hobbyists.

That's what I used to think until someone like Andreas, the big laminated timber god, said that was the only thing they'd use. Go figure. Different strokes...pun intended.

I like the disks by Mirka from Finland. Not expensive and have worked well over 3 boats and many other projects. They wet sand nicely too.
