Just about ready to launch after a two year restoration. One of the final projects was attending to the head, which I took out earlier
in the project. Taking it apart today a number of the bronze bolts that connect the china bowl to the bronze pump assembly
were badly corroded and in working to remove them I broke the base of the bowl. Wouldn't you know...

The base broke pretty cleanly. Can it be epoxied (or other adhesive)? I did a few searches on the internet, and in this forum and got zero hits on
Mott marine heads. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I fixed an old American Standard once with J-B Weld.

    It ate sh**.

    That is, it worked OK.

Are you talking about using epoxy to fix broken porcelain, or to attach the bronze base to the porcelain?

My experience has been that epoxy can't be used to glue ceramics (I tried it on a teapot once--it was about as effective as maple syrup).

Been up working on the boat, hence the delay in responding. (Launched her Monday, only took 3 hours to swell tight ...

I am hoping to epoxy the porcelain (two pieces). A friend thought it would work quite well with an epoxy suitable for ceramics. I picked some up this morning.

5 minute epoxy works good on coffee cups, only it doesn't last after 10-20 times through the dishwasher.

    Thumbs up

So there you have it! It'll work fine as long as you don't put the head in the dishwasher (repeatedly)!

There is absolutely no problem that can't be solved around here. God I love this place
