Fantastic. I lived in Vietnam for a few months in the early aughts and spent a lot of time on the water. Never a dull moment. I was impressed by the people getting real work done in these:


Later when I learned about the Welsh coracle I couldn't help but wonder about these very similar basket boats on opposite sides of the world. Is their likeness a result of convergent evolution or common ancestry? I haven't the foggiest.

Ha Ha- Actually looked like alot of pretty good boat handling. The sinking tugboat didn't seem to phase anyone much! I like the guys/women on the bow with the tire for the right moment. These are all working boats, not a weekend armada.

This appears to be the water version of their road traffic. It’s seems very chaotic at first but then you start seeing how incredibly choreographed it really is. Getting **** done indeed!

Seeing the different types of boats, their uses and how they are fitted out is super interesting.

I think the gate is there to prevent salt water from flowing into the river at high tide during the dry season. The water from the river is used to grow rice and other crops. At first I thought they were going through locks...

Very interesting. But what the hell is going on? It's not a two lock system, when they open the gate right at the start of the video, the water starts rushing through like it is a contained river. I assume it is left open until all the traffic passes through. I see a hell of a queue, so that may take a while. I also assume it has to be scheduled, hence the long line waiting. What happens when they have to go downstream? How will you navigate through that narrow space going down current with no water flow over the rudder? My hair stands on end.
