    Default Design Levi Dart 38

    Hello all,

A few days ago I saw an image of a boat that fascinated me, it is not really a wooden boat, it is more fiber, the boat is called Levi Dart 38. I decided that I had to design it for a possible model, who knows. The information available is very little, after much research and reading I will follow the information I found. I know the length, I know two more measures step and beam. As for the rest it will be by approximation, drawing a lot of lines and then adjusting until it makes sense or proportionate, it will be fun.
I already have some lines, still need more adjustments and alignment.

It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

Surely seeking to collaborate or share is not messing with AKA changing his design?

    Hello all,

Some progress the lines are in the position that I want but need more work because the surfaces are not quite fluid.

    Hello all,

I have been working to adjust and refine the lines. I work in a full size model. The need to move a line sometimes is very small, here is the proof.

    Hello all,

First lines of the spray rail have a lot of work needed to do. The lines between the hull and starboard are done and straight.

In fact it showed for a short time, it had an accident and then it was dismantled, but the development was there and it was used and improved in the next models.

I have been working in the cockpit, more properly in the seat, the photos that I could find on the internet I can see part of the seats, I started the seat three times and I'm not happy with the director and the results, how a simple thing can be so hard to draw !!

Sonny Levi designed some fascinating boats. Sometime back in the late 60's-early 70's IIRC, Rudder magazine had one of his boats chronicled in their DIY home boat building series. It was about 25' loa with a stepped hull and powered by a Perkins diesel engine, pretty advanced for it's day. The article had the lines drawings and dimensions as well as building instructions. I kept the magazine for decades, maybe still have it packed away in storage. I imagine that the magazine issue could be tracked down with a bit of Internet searching.

Some time ago someone shared with me a low resolution original drawings or part of them. Finally I have some time to compare the drawings to mine design, I take a few lines from the original drawing to compare, I have not made any changes in my drawing yet, minimum adjustments, not bad for a design from some photos, I'm not far. The step is 34 centimeters because of the measures that I could find, 38 and 40 feet long. I could find in my searches a few measures, beam, distance from the step until the stern and a few more.
The wing needs to move a little back and a little wider, the deck a little down after the cockpit, the holes for the air vents need to be resized, small adjustments like I said, very happy with the result. One thing that I didn't know it's the frames for a boat that was built with fiber and carbon fiber, with frames giving some strength and rigidity to the hull. The yellow lines it's the new ones.
    What do you think?

Found it, the design was called Evolution, 28' loa. It was in the January 1976 issue of Rudder magazine. The May 1975 issue of Rudder had an article on Sonny Levi and his designs through the 1950's and 60's. His Riva 2000 was on the cover.

What I really like are the lines, during my research I saw this model.

I have been adjusting and correcting some of my lines (such as deck, hull, spray rails and starboard) in relation to the original design, some of them now make more sense after being straight, I haven't touched the cockpit yet it will be the next step.

Study the cockpit height and shape in relation to the pilot's position, maybe it's too high.

I already started the cockpit but I have to do the seats first, so I decided to start the emblem / logo, I will need eight of at least two sizes in order to make the stickers. I already have the baselines done now, I will create a surface and put the corresponding color in each part of the emblem.

"U" bolt and deck rail, I am working in the cleat. Initially I made the rail deck holders thinner, after I looked at a few moments it has needed changing them for thick ones.
