In macrame as shown in your beautiful examples: One strand of the overhand knot goes above and one strand goes below the core.
In my lanyard both strands of the overhand knot go on the same side of the core. Tony

Not quite. In the lanyard he overhand knot is tied with both cords on top of the core. The lanyard is flipped over and the next overhand knot is tied with both cords on top of that side of the core. Repeat.

I keep putting off the small button pull lanyard I would like to make, some Tuesday next week for "Bright Star's" instrument panel cover. Given your own choice what knot would you choose? For color I think I maybe red parachute chord would be a good choice instead of white.

How about a 4 strand square sennit finished with a doubled wall and crown?

Perfect opportunity for a star knot Jay. Tie a star knot then pass it through the fitting then work up something like some cockscombing or some other covering back along the length of the pull. If my description makes sense.

Star knots are nice. You can do a 4 strand star instead of the wall and crown. Or do as Sailor says and work macrame over the other tree strands as a core. That way it will lay flat and be easier to grip.

I do like a Star Knot for a bell rope but I think it is a bit fancy for this job. Nick I do like your four strand sennet with the wall and crown end. I was thinking maybe of an English Rose knot doubled. Any way I appreciate the input from all of you and now I must send off for some red parachute cord!
