I very much admire Lin and Larry, admire them enough to especially enjoy the brilliant send up they got in that '80s satire Yaachting magazine.

Nothing against celebrating an exceptional life... but we did this a bit ago, thanks to Jay Greer --

Didn't see it. Blame it on the New York Times.

I like to remind myself they got on a boat and went cruising in the sixties, that is a life well lived indeed. Lin is about to make a Tasman crossing shortly, AU back to NZ.

Another Photo of Larry here in the cabin of "Taliesen" showing off his special folding saloon table. It mounts on two stanchions
that are connected to the floors and the overhead. It also has a couple of oil lamps on the stanchions which are good for grabbing on to in snotty weather. This is so good, I intend to make a duplicate for our boat!

I met them years ago at woodenboat school in Maine. They were anchored in front of the woodenboat pier and came ashore for the end of week lobster bake. Also had a book signed at a lecture series at Mystic Seaport. The two of them couldn't have been more polite and pleasant. Of course I'll probably reread one of their books now.

The last couple of times I visited, Larry was not in good shape but could still hold a conversation if one was patient. Its been very sad to see the slow decline.

I remember seeing the two of them at the Festival in Port Townsend a number of years ago. One look at Larry told me he was a sick man but chalked it up to jet lag or something along those lines. Had a few very brief interactions with Lin, that lady is a ball of fire, and on casual acquaintance at least a very nice person.

Larry Pardey certainly left a mark on the cruising world, I wonder who will fill his boat shoes?
