R2AK movie is streaming on Saturday night. There's also a Q&A. I bought a ticket to support the festival, and because the movie looks really good. I'll see if Chuck's on 85th can fill a growler with some beer from the Port Townsend Brewery.

I think that recording and streaming all the talks is brilliant. I hope they do it in future years. For a long time, there have been a lot of talks that I've wanted to see but managed to miss due to sailing, beer, and laziness. Treating the festival a bit like an online conference that you can go back and see the talks is intriguing to me.

All I've ever done at the festival is walk around,visit, drink beer, and take my boat out a few times...for 20 of 40 something years.
Never been to a talk, never built an instant boat ( that would not even be fair),never got a signed copy of Pardeys books....
...that chit is more important to me anyway....hehheh...
So, yea...no doubt missed a lot.

I watched a lot of Day 1. It's basically a film festival, along with a number of Zoom panel talks. We watched the R2AK movie. I really enjoyed it. All the content is available through October 19.

I've only watched the "Hitch-Hiker's Guide to Wooden Boats" short film so far--quite enjoyed it.

I appreciated the authenticity and lack of uber-slick production values--quite appropriate given the subject matter (a short ultra-cheap boat-centric adventure undertaken for its own sake (no racing, no competition, no following someone else's rules--very much the style of boating I aspire to).

Caught the Draken film and Q&A afterwords. Was interested to hear that they would like to bring Draken to the west coast of North America and enter it in the R2AK. I'd sign up as an oarsman/viking pillager.

I quite enjoyed the Small Wooden Boat Design panel with Harris, Storer, Welsford, and Chase. One topic in agreement was they all have seen a big uptick in plans sold and boats being built during the current pandemic. So I suppose the next crisis we will all face are traffic jams on our waterways! Not a bad problem to have to face, actually.

The R2AK movie is well worth watching even though it is lacking subtitles for we who have compromised hearing. If they add that feature, I'll watch it again.

Still a lot to view. I'm glad that most of the content will be available into October.

I thoroughly enjoyed the R2AK film. An impressive effort to tell the complex story of a complex event. I also tend to miss the talks because I'm chatting, drinking, or sailing. So being able to parse through them at will over the next month is well worth the cost of admission.

All in all, it seems it was a major success for NWMC.
