    Default Bullet-proofing our society

trump and McTurtle et al have efficiently illuminated all the weak points in our society, Constitution, government. By appearances, so much of what makes the Constitution work - is honorable men (women) implementing it. We do not have that critical element, in the current IMPOTUS, Republican Senate, or SCOTUS. Pledged to eliminate the USPS, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. Eliminate public lands and environmental protections. The devil lives amongst us.

Anticipating that there MAY be a wholesale rebuke of trumpism and it's followers - there may be a very short window of opportunity to clean things up, reverse all the crap trump/McTurtle have done. But we all know the pendulum will swing back. I have to wonder - what options, if any, exist to put in place (permanent) protections against this?

    Scrap the electoral college.
Eliminate the ability to install acting directors for more than a week or two.
SCOTUS nominations should come from the judiciary itself.
No publicly available voter registration information.

How? Constitutional amendment? Sounds a tall wall to scale.

Yeah. Ideas without a plan is akin to a toothless dog, eh?

I'm wondering if we can find teeth.

I agree that the Electoral College needs to go. I found it a terrible idea when I was in Grade School.. However the best idea came here
Eliminate the ability to install acting directors for more than a week or two.
I realize there is a need for acting directors from time to time, but they need a sell by date. I give it thirty days.

You should be bright enough to find a way without an amendment. What you need, and your biggest problem, is getting enough Voters to actually want the change. When a majority wants the change, the elected Reps will find a way, or the voters will elect Reps who are willing to represent.

By all appearances, the Rips have been working, for many decades, at 'stacking the deck' against just such a change. It's unfortunate - but the folks who know what needs to change, know how to change it, are oftentimes directly benefiting from the current system. Seems to make them uninspired in moving that direction.

"Structural reform" is not a substitute for civic virtue. The finest structure doesn't mean S without it.

As I said, the voting citizens have got to want it. At the moment, on all that could be improved, your voters seem to be content with the status quo.
    Where is the outrage?

Suspect 'most of us' don't know what steps need to be taken - and are awaiting some leadership as to how to proceed.

    Might be a long wait.

    More:

Limit the ability of the POTUS to terminate an IG involved in direct oversight or investigation of the current administration without just cause.

Do you have any evidence that "most of us" want anything to change?

As I said, where is the outrage?

If not 'most', perhaps 'many'. Better?

AFA the outrage - where do we post that?

You find it reported in reputable US media.

The fact that you have to ask kind of confirms my suspicion that there is none.

Erm.... no. You bucking for O&O status, sonny?

The 'news' is filled with 'outrage' - protests, etc.. But that's not actionable. It 'might' be, if enough folks are allowed to vote, and hopefully actually vote for their best interests. Not a given; lots of gullible, rather intellectually bland folks out there, facing a republican juggernaut at the present. 'If' our elected officials fail to take 'our' concerns to heart, not much can be done - that I'm aware of - short of waiting the next vote.

"Protests" are the actions of a motivated vocal extreme. Any letters to the editor's pages in your media? Apart from Putin's minions, how much traffic on social media debating the ills of the USA? Any other groundswell of opinion being discussed in the various media? Much in the way of Leaders or Op-Eds?

How about a single reform: one man, one vote. President chosen by the majority of voters, congressional representation proportional to the population.

If you all had an actual democracy none of the current problems would be happening.
