These are lovely, Jack. How long does it take you to do this? They’re so detailed!

Nice work Jack! What's the scale on those? And how did you do the clouds in "Cape Horn Weather", dry brush wash?

Thanks Tracy , It takes about an hour or so . I do in pen first then break out some pens.

Hugh. I usually do then on some 8X10 paper. A dry brush and some finger work.

Jack, I have done a lot of stuff that might qualify as art but still consider myself as a craftsman rather than an artist. Several pictures have been posted since it became possible on WBF but now it does not work.

Jack, No ink drawing but some pyrography may qualify. This is one of a bos'n at the cat's head heaving a line to a tug on entrance to harbor. The tug is barely visible to the side.

Excellent work Mr. Dillon! I especially like seeing the different states of the rig; close hauled, hove-to, backing down.... Really shows some expertise!

I have been on ocean water since 1950 but will never know nearly as much about ocean sailing vessel rigging as you show in your drawings. The age of steel ships is more comprehensible to me. Sail shape is easier to understand but how the various sails of a big ship are set for differing situations I will just rely on your drawings.

Could that be the event of Hull kedging away from a British squadron off New York? I thought I recalled them doing that a couple of times, once over a shoal that the British couldn't follow across.

Captain Issac Hull captaining the Constitution on July 17th 1812, escaped by first rowing then kedging away from a large British squadron: 64 gun Africa, frigates, Shannon, Belividera, Aeolus and Guerriere.

I just finished reading about it in Six Frigates by Ian Toll. I highly recommend it as it he has extensively researched the many battles we are familiar with and in a style that is very readable.
