    Default Australian Music and Recordings

    A BYOB thread featuring Australian Artists and their Recordings. A covid lockdown project for me, all contributions welcome, as we are confined to quarters for the next six weeks.....

    I'll start off with perhaps the best sounding voice in Australia, that of Jimmy Little and his cover of The Go Between's Cattle and Cain. I will throw a few of my recordings of Oz artists from time to time, this is not one of them;

    I knew the Red Onions almost from the start at the Onion Patch in Elsternwick (I think).
    They developed into something much more sophisticated, but they were always hot!

    Rohan Smith, the piano player, moved to New Orleans and has been making a living as a musician there ever since, though he must be 80 or so by now so maybe he's retired.

    The Australian Voices has some stunning work on record. As the arts and music scene in Aus closed its doors this year they released funding to some members to commission them to compose works for the choir. My youngest was one of those commissioned. The work has been recorded in Brisbane and we are now waiting for the engineering production to be completed. I'll share it here when it's released.

    A friend was supposed to tour with Fiona this year. They did play at least a couple dates in Australia before the virus shut them down.

    Thanks all for the great contributions.
    I recorded Lloyd's first album to 1/2 inch 8 track tape back around 98. Here's a vid from 2006

    Gonna sneak this one in here while Hallam isn't looking- it's not an Aussie song- but it's from one of my favourite Rockwiz episodes and it's my favourite clip featuring the Bull sisters, Linda and Vika, the girls in blue in the clip. They made a great career for themselves as backing singers, particularly for Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows, but are now going great guns on their own. Love 'em to bits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFjReNpCInA JayInOz

    Nattali Rize. Is Australian reggae an inherent contradiction? Or an inevitable outgrowth of colonialism?
