Default My yacht club has morphed……...

…..into a RC model yacht club on one of the farmer member's dams because of Covid restrictions. I'm told the racing is far more aggressive because no one risks holing their boat, but an umpire is required as protests are frequent………………. Groundings and 'weedings' ….in the thick mud….. are more frequent as a muddy dam has less obvious hazards than our sand bar infested inlet in clear water.

It is reported that some skippers have still managed to fall in despite not actually being aboard their boats………….

sounds like fun. I have attempted several times to build an RC sailboat, I never finished them. I get as far as setting up the Electronics, lose interest, and sell them along

I was a member of the South Orange Seaport Society. They may still have a website. When I moved, it was too far to go to sail my models

They met weekly at the South Orange Duck Pond and had some incredible models. I made three. Last one was a schooner, and I sailed it through the obstacle course they put out in the pond. Then I moved. Sailed in the pool a little, but pool's gone. Radios died. Nowhere nearby to sail them.

I have a collection of vintage free sailers in 'as found' condition including one given to me at 10 that raced with a club on a big local lake. It came back to me in terrible condition, I have restored it with the original Braine gear rebuilt in copper. But to sail on a deep mud edged dam I would indeed need RC gear.

Sailing canoe has had a couple of outings with it's new lateen rig, but the drop in rowing rig will have to wait till it's a bit warmer for the epoxy to cure.

This was my favorite model in our club. Drove down a ramp into the pond, and up the ramp when done. Headlights worked, signals worked, top went up and down. Amazing.

Yes. signal light worked, horn blew. Top went up and down. Drove down a ramp into the pond, and up the ramp exiting. And it wasn't all that big.

John Gill, who made it, was one hell of a model maker.

What are this "fuction" thing and how do you fill it?

G'day Chris. How's it like living in the landof the free?

Fully Functional. It's those things that used to work properly that don't any more, like knees…………...

Someone made a typo. But the model is full function, and truly amazing.
