Interesting plaque attached to the inside:

Anyone with experience know that the "plaston shell" of this boat is - or considering that the hull seems to have been stripped - used to be? I had always thought that these were canvas-covered.

I believe that "Plaston" was simply canvas with an "xcelite plastic" coating as described below from their 1958 catalog.

Thanks very much for that. "Dreadnaught" grade construction - Love it!

Another question for those who know about these boats: The boat in question seems a bit twisted out of shape, per this photo:

Is this likely a result of sitting without the canvas skin for an extended period? By which I mean does tension in the skin add much torsional rigidity in this type of construction?

No, twisting is more likely to be due to improper storage. Canvas or other skins usually will not prevent this. It can often be corrected during the restoration. Good luck,

Only 15 minutes away from me and all downhill! But, I have no use for a boat that small and just started another project. I've no idea how someone would get that twist out of her.
I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.

Maybe a combination of twist & shout?

My father in law's neighbor had one hanging in her garage. It hung from one side and was deformed. It was about a 14' Ultra-light, complete with canvas. My 80+ yo FiL and I picked it up easily. She sold that house, I hope the boat didn't get crushed.

Tempting, Garret, but I don't have a source fro Plaston
Are you getting in any time on the water?

Ordinary canoe canvas will work fine and this is available from a variety of sources.

Not a bit. Long, boring story.
