Similar to my last post but the stern seating area is now complete. I still have lots of sanding to do and rounding over of the forward edge but it's getting much closer.

The working Lincolnville salmon wherry landed and took off from a beach; coming in there would be a load. So protection from bottom wear was important.

Another step towards a May 1st launch. The stern sheets (is that the right terminology?) are now epoxied in and have received their first coat of varnish. I was a little surprised that a couple of the lighter contrasting strips have almost disappeared next to their slightly darker neighbours but what the heck. That won't affect either the floatation or the performance.

The stern sheets indeed look lovely! Well done and we look forward to seeing your launch!

No April fools today (but several stupid mistakes that should be hidden except from all you expert boat builders). Making progress with lots of filling, sanding, painting and more varnish to get her finished.

Almost there. A little more paint, another coat of varnish and a few small details. Fortunately the picture hides most of my mistakes.

I have never seen a flawless wooden boat. I doubt they exist. Yours is in good company with every other well built boat on this planet.

    Thank you Heimlaga.
She is now finished and just needs some wheels to move her to the water. Maybe next weekend.

Looks great, Roy - and you even clocked the screws on that plate. A truly fine build ! ! !

Every screw on this boat is clocked but then I'm an eccentric!

I delivered Lady Grace to her new home on Wednesday between heavy rain the days before and after. Hopefully there will be a break in the weather in the next few days and we can do an official launch. She will also be taking part in a sail past for the commodore of our local sailing club on May 13th. Fingers crossed for good weather.

During our honeymoon trip down the Maine coast in 1975 we stopped at Camden harbor to look over the assembled fleet of boats. I'd lived there during my late teens and wanted to show my new wife the wood boats of which there was quite a collection then. Pulled up on the shore was Walt Simmons first Lincolnville Wherry. We'd stopped at his shop to get one of his bronze anchors and he told us where the boat was. I have a photo somewhere and if I find it I'll post.
For the most part experience is making the same mistakes over and over again, only with greater confidence.

This morning, with sunshine, no wind and a flat sea, I launched Lady Grace. She handles beautifully and I know I'm going to enjoy using her. Here's a picture just back off the water.
