For the record ... that is not a bottle of blue vodka in the photo above. The vodka (American, Tito's is my rail brand) is just sitting in front of the blue Curacao.

I've been making my own non alcohol ginger ale. I make a syrup of sugar, water, lemon juice and grated fresh ginger. Two ozs of syrup over ice topped up with a can of club soda makes a refreshing hot weather cooler.
Well I went to get an ice cream bar and discovered the upright freezer was defrosting, and full of meat. So my cocktail has been one Klondike bar and one yoghurt bar while moving meat around. I’m done!
Tonight's cocktail was this The Queen Elizabeth, a remarkably excellent drink.
The origins of most cocktails are rather uncertain. Not so with this drink: It was invented in 1934 by Herbert L. Quick, the head bartender at the Benjamin Franklin Hotel in Philadelphia. Quick created it as an entry for a nationwide cocktail contest sponsored by the folks who marketed Bénédictine liqueur.
Every cocktail needs a name, so Quick named this one after his wife. At that time, there was no Queen Elizabeth in sight. The mother of the current queen (also named Elizabeth) only took that title when her husband became king in 1936, after the abdication of his brother. The reign of Elizabeth II was many years in the future. (She ascended the throne in 1952.) And Elizabeth I had died in 1603.
The Queen Elizabeth
2 parts Dry vermouth (Noilly Prat)
1 part Bénédictine
1 part Fresh lime juice
Shake and strain into a cocktail glass in the usual way.

Simple. If only I had some Benedictine. I think I’ll rectify that tomorrow.
Mexican Coke 3 oz sugar cane rhum Puerto Rican. Dream land shortly.
Christmas Cocktail: Gin, lemon juice, cranberry juice, simple syrup, egg white. Shaken, add ice shake again and pour over crushed ice.

Brandy Alexander. Equal parts crème de cacao, brandy, and cream in a chilled glass with grated chocolate on top.
Sherry Lady
2 parts Dry Sherry
2 parts London Dry Gin
1 part Cointreau
1 part lemon juice
Shake hard over ice, and strain into a cocktail glass. Squeeze a strip of lemon zest over the drink and serve.

Hot cider and Cutty Sark whisky. Cutty Sark has a mild flavor that goes very well with the cider.
Yachting, the only sport where you get to be a mechanic, electrician, plumber and carpenter
Simpleton here. Whisky neat or over ice depending on the whiskey. Cocktail would be a simple gin and tonic (sugar free tonic with a lime twist). Lately, Mi Campo Reposada tequila neat or over a cube of ice. Surprisingly pleasant tequila with a bit of a non traditional, gentle tequila taste. Some say it’s tequila for the youngster scene. But I just think it’s a pleasant and interesting tequila.

Gin and tonics are ok but a rum and tonic is fantastic.
