Offers a most gentile and and fragrant cocktail. If ever after this Pandemic I would surely like to make acquaintance.

Thanks! I wouldn't mind giving it a try. I bet Jim Beam Honey would work reasonably well in that.

Finished my Christmas wrapping tonight and looking for a new cocktail. I have a pretty well stocked bar and some of Nicholas’ recipes look tasty but have some exotic ingredients. But then, he lives only a couple of blocks down the street from me.

The Defender from the Waldorf Astoria looks good and I have some Old Tom gin that needs a place. She may have some creme de violette but she’s on the phone and I’ll die of thirst before she hangs up and tells me where it is.

Alas, no creme de violette. I might have a Don’t Give Up the Ship, from Stoneburner’s here in Ballard.

    1.5 bell ringer gin
    .5 curaçao
    .5 sweet vermouth
    .3 Fernet

    Shake over ice
Garnish with cherry or orange rind.

Been drinking a Gibson when day is done, while I read. Gordon's gin, dry vermouth, pearl onions pickled in vermouth.

A dry Martini with onions rather than olives.

Paul asked in a pm what rye I’ve found for my Manhattans, but I couldn’t attach a pic in the pm. So I figured it’s appropriate to this thread. I’ve settled in this one that I really like.

Not a cocktail but but highly recommended. Not sweet like the name implies more herbal. The chocolate is more like unsweetened cocoa. Very nice!

Nephew introduced us to Remy Martin 1738 with a splash of Sprite. Best cognac I’ve tasted as I’m not a cognac drinker usually.

At hunting camp the gents drink the following at the day’s end. Hot chocolate (Swiss Miss) with a shot of white Bacardi and a shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream. Two is more than enough. Try three and you’ll regret it. I’ve tried this and I can’t taste alcohol and it goes down easily. I can feel just one....

My old standby is a Sambuca and Coke. Yup, that's it. Frozen beer mug with ice cubes in it. Simple and tasty. Can't find the Luxardo brand black Sambuca of my younger days anymore though.

    Default Cocktail, whatcha got?

Tonight, courtesy of The Modern in NYC,

    The Kina Cocktail

1 part London Dry Gin (Might use Tanqueray for this)
    1 part Lillet Blanc
    1 part Cocchi Americano
1 Dash of bone-dry Fino Sherry (I sometimes substitute Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, a very tasty variation)

Premium moonshine, does that mean no old car radiators used?

Back in the early 80s, I was on a hike with a friend of mine and her dog up in the Daniel Boone National Forest a bit outside London, Kentucky.

Her dog flushed a BIG moonshine operation up a holler. Not craft moonshine: his place produced Mob-operated cheap, poisonous 'shine.

Luckily, nobody home and it wasn't in operation.

But we still hightailed it out of there right quick. Because discretion is the better part of valor.

May have missed it in this thread, but I’ve seen several highly varied recipes for a rum cocktail called an El Presidente, from Cuba. Mostly seems to be amber rum (or dark, or light), Blanc vermouth or Blanc Lillet (not dry vermouth), Curaçao or Triple Sec or Gran Marnier, grenadine. Stirred over ice, garnished with orange twist. I’ve been looking for a good rum cocktail, want to try this. Anyone have a favorite version of this?

It seems most of the ingredients are at hand (haven’t found the curaçao but I have gran Marnier and Triple Sec). The problem seems to be deciding on which rum. Looks like at least four cocktails in my near future. Any suggestions as to which to try first?

Here’s an El Presidente. Very nice flavors, excellent cocktail however a little sweeter than I usually drink. She likes it a lot.

I have never tried absinthe. What is a good cocktail to give it a try? Maybe I will go all Aleister Crowley on y'all.

Same here. Dropped Schweppe’s (heavy on HFCS) in favor of Fever Tree (order by case of 24x2) & green-bottle Tanquerey or maybe Hendrick’s for a treat. Tall 16 oz. glass, 6 or 7 ice cubes.
