What new toys to YOU have??

For me, it's yard tools. Both my ancient yard-sale corded string trimmer, and the even older and cheaper hedge trimmers, died. I tried to repair them... but no luck. I certainly got my money's worth out of 'em. So I went with 18v cordless replacements from Makita. So quiet. So balanced. So nice not to be dragging a cord around.

Except for the two shaggy high-mountain blueberries out front - which are just putting on fruit now - which the birds love, so my sweetie won't allow to be trimmed yet. And the pair of rhododendrites, which have to completely finish blooming before they can be pruned. I'll circle back to them later.

I recently left behind 12 years of condo life and have moved back to middle class suburbia which means re-outfitting for a garage and yard.

I was kinda delighted to see all of the battery powered lawn equipment available and have gone with ryobi based on past performance with the drill and small circular saw.

Lawn mower, string trimmer/light duty tiller, chainsaw, shop vac. The lawn mover is really quiet, and the 6 amp hour is plenty to for my rather small yard. The shop vac is great for quick clean ups but does not last more than 20 min on a fresh battery, but I really like the design and how easy it is to clean and go from wet to dry.

On my 1973 model, I do have the green sparkly grips* and chrome fenders.
I picked it out of the trash.
I am slowly cleaning a layer of crud and rust off of it and ordering new rubber.
I will have as much fun fixin it, as i will riding it.
I get satisfaction bringing things back from the dead and giving it new life.
Coaster brakes work fine on the flatlands I'll be riding on.
It's a pretty simple bike, not much to go wrong.

The saw is a Hall and Brown #2 bandsaw. Its absurd really, 36" wheels. Must weigh over 1000 lbs. The patent date on the casting is 1888, but I think this one is from about 1910. Its hard to tell, it doesn't match any others that I've seen with a known date.

Its been updated with ball bearing pillow blocks and one wheel has been replaced with a welded version. I get the feeling it has worked hard for many years.

I have thoroughly gone through it and am nearly ready to power up. Just waiting on a fancy new VFD 3 phase converter to arrive.

I have been taking some video of the rebuild, will put together some of the clips one of these days.

My brother in law is a lawn and garden maintenance contractor, all of his gear, from the big 72in ride on down to the string trimmers and hedgecutters is battery powered electric. Amazing stuff, he gets contracts from rest homes and schools because the gear is so quiet. Mostly Stihl by the way.
Me? I've been a bit short of cash for a while, had most of my funds locked up in a property deal so, in order to have the capacity in my truck based tool set have a large selection of Ryobi cordless. As soon as, and I mean the very instant, that I get paid out from the property sale I'll be selling those cheap and nasty tools and re equipping with a combination of Festool and Makita.
Life's not long enough to have to use anything but the best.

If I were a landscaping pro - I'd choose Stihl also. Spendy, but worth it. Festool is really well-built stuff, but they've not got the industry foundation/knowledge that Stihl does.

If I were a pro on a budget - I'd be happy to have either the Makita or Milwaukee tools. And since those are the two cordless brands I already own... those were what I looked at.
