My kind of home defense piece, double 20 in barrel coach gun in 12 gauge,
deadly at close range. Any stray birdshot won't accidentally kill the neighbors.

12 gauge pump. I prefer 16 gauge, and I prefer o/u or s/s, but nothing in this world is as versatile as a 12 gauge pump. Everything from small birds to large game. Simple, reliable, cheap. Also, it makes the sound that makes criminal quiver in their boots, crap themselves, and run home to momma.

    Very. Interesting. Design.

Recoil? It weighs 6.9 lbs with the short barrel and magazines (12+1 capacity) and 9.25 lbs with the long barrel and magazines (20+1 capacity), both empty. Fully stock the magazines and it has plenty of weight to reduce recoil.

the buckshot/turkeyshot don't make a hell of lot of difference at self defense ranges

seriously, ten yards or less youre sending 1 oz of lead down range and its max spread for either is gonna be eight inches

the turkey shot hole in a human will be no less impressive than the buckshot hole i promise you

12 gauge pump action with a detachable box magazine. Safer, because you can keep it unloaded and separate from the ammunition. Takes but a moment to seat the magazine and rack a round into the chamber.

    Except, perhaps, to the neighbors.

May want to back off to #6.

The #1 buck has enough mass to be 'quite uncomfortable' to the target, and you get better pattern density out past ten yards.

If you equip the shottie with an 18" rifled barrel, it will spread out a whole lot more.

Unfortunately, it leaves a hole in the center of the pattern.

With hand loads, you can stack the buckshot in the center of the round, and hold it in place with smaller shot stacked around the buck.

Whether that would help to fill the hole is anybody's guess.

As you can see, it simply won't do to weaponize John T.

Nobody put "attractive" down as a requirement. I'm sure Remington's custom shop would be happy to pretty it up.

    Dedicated Glock Mag lowers.

The top one is a 4" barrel, the bottom I think a 10" barrel. I already swapped that 4" barrel for a 5.5" barrel with an integrated feed ramps for reliability. Works so well, I've got another one coming to replace the 10" barrelled one. Both will be suppressed for a total length around 13" of barrel/suppressor. I'm reloading 147gr bullets and keeping them subsonic.

Remington 870. They've always been a little homely, but that box magazine doesn't do it any favors, that's for sure.

The FN 5.7 is a cool pistol and a great cartridge. But I'll probably never buy one.

Id take a 7.62 by 25 for penetration or a .22 LR for cheap. The 5.7 seems to me to be an answer to an unasked question.

Cheap bullets, cheap brass, a $25 pound of TiteGroup powder will reload over 1900 cartridges, can use small rifle primers as well as small pistol primers. Military ammo available in a zombie apocalypse.

No gas system to worry about, it's a blowback system that works on bolt/buffer weight, and buffer spring tension.

Plus the wife and daughter like the low recoil.

Ruger makes one now too, the '57.' Originality is optional.
